Snow depth has a lot to do with the difficulty of determining or spotting a lion track when mixed in with the tracks of other animals. Train yourself to spot every predator track and note that the pattern of ther tracks is much different from the tracks of prey animals. Note that canine predators weave back in forth as they travel the reason is they follow air thermals and use their nose for a great deal of their hunting and traveling moves. Felids(cats) have a much more direct way of traveling and and soon your second sense will guide your eyes thru the maize of tracks and lock onto those sign. It takes time and praactice go slow and be sure to get out and sift thru heavil traveled game trails. Lions many times will walk right in the tracks of deer or elk and seeing their pug marks can be very difficult but trust me when you find the prey travel routed if there are lions about they will be close by.

I know many guys are so good at spotting tracks that they haul butt down the roads and just know they are not missing any lion track , but trust me they are wrong. I have caught many lions coming down the road behind some very successful Outfitters, and I am sure a lot of lions have been caught behind me too. LOL!

I am way up in the northwest corner. Check out the feed store across from the Cowboy Cafe and you might run into some local hunters down that way. :)
