How high up can you go and still find coons

Post by houndcrazy93 »

Hey everyone I was wondering how high you can go and still find coons cuz I just found a nice area where I know coons would be for sure if it was lower. I'm not exactly sure how high up it was. But I'm thinking around 1500 and it's on the back side of a mountain where not to many people go. So any input would be nice

It all depends on the habitat and food source. I can show you coons at 4000 to 5000 feet in the cascades. They will come down in the winter or hold up. Dewey

My house is at 5000'. I catch coons on a regular basis without leaving home. As Dewey said, it's about the habitat and food source, not the elevation.

I trapped six coons this year in an attic in the town of Georeyown Colorado. The town is at 9300 feet. And it was in January with two feet of snow on the ground. Surprised me.

I live at about 1800 feet, and there are coons most of the way to the peaks, which around here are about 3500 feet. In my experience, they go as high as the creeks do. Coons like creek beds. You'll find them in swampy headwaters in the cols between peaks, but not on bald spots at the top.
