WE'VE BEEN ASKED TO RALLY ONE MORE TIME AT THE CAPITOL!!!!
THIS THURSDAY AUGUST 16TH.
LET'S SHOW THEM ONE MORE TIME THAT THIS SB1221 IS VERY NEAR AND DEAR TO OUR HEARTS AND THAT IT SHOULD REMAIN IN THE SUSPENSE FILE!!!!
INCLUDED A LETTER FROM OUR CHC PRESIDENT, JOSH BRONES.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ladies and gentlemen, you have stood shoulder to shoulder with CHC, COHA, USSA, and our many friends and allies in this fight for our very survival.
You have stood in line, been told what to do and when to do it, been coached on what to say and what not to say, and ordered when to show up and what to wear.
You have been insulted, degraded, slandered, libeled, and called every name in the boo...k from cub killer and dog abuser to sexual predator and drug pusher by people who have absolutely no honor, no integrity, and no clue as to the facts regarding wildlife, hunting, or the use of hounds.
You have seen our legislative process hijacked by a powerful minority of out-of-state interests in collusion with an even smaller minority of very ignorant, very urban, and very liberal legislators who think so little of our heritage and way of life that they are willing to barter it for a few favors, a few votes, a couple of endorsements, and untold dollars in donations. You have seen highly unusual steps being taken and exerted effort being given to passing this bill through each phase.
You have witnessed the thousands upon thousands of phone calls, faxes, letters, and emails you have sent being ignored and disregarded in favor of the petty few hundred sent in support. You have seen the politicians try to hide the hundreds and hundreds of you as they conveniently pretended that you weren't crowding every hallway, and every available room.
Despite all this, you have held your tongue, kept your hands off of their necks, resisted the urge to yell or perhaps do something worse, and have made the trek to that domed building of corruption and dysfunction time and time again.
Let's face it; you couldn't turn your back on this way of life if you tried, and it is for this reason that you cannot turn your back on this fight. Sure, there are those that you know that could not be bothered to send so much as a single letter just as there are those hounds who won't even get out of the dogbox. There are others still who have stopped trying after the bill got out of the first committee, but they are no different than the hounds that quit the race and come back to the road as soon as the bear turns around and faces his pursuers.
You have faced this situation with dignity and fortitude because you owe it to yourself. You owe it to your fellow houndsmen and women you hunt with, or know of, or will never even know exist. You have done all of this because you can't bear the thought of looking into the eyes of your kids and your hounds with the knowledge that they will never see another bear tree in this state that you call home.
This has been an epic race, one that will be long remembered. Your feet are sore, your voice is hoarse, and your muscles are fatigued. You are hot, you are tired, and you are thirsty. You may even be banged up and bruised. This race has gone on far longer than you ever imagined it would when you were turned out. Others have fallen out of the race, and you've even thought about giving up yourself. The canyon in front of you is far too deep. The mountain that lies ahead is far too steep.
Soon, we will face another round in this battle for the way of life we hold dear. The bill that would condemn us as poachers, would condemn our hounds to death, and would condemn a tradition that can be traced to the very dawn of mankind will be heard yet again.
And, naturally, you will rise to the challenge yet again to defend your way of life and all that you hold dear. For inside you beats a heart that was born for this way of life we call hound hunting. You were born for this. You were bred for this. You knew it from the moment you first heard that mournful bawl or that excited chop. You knew it from the first time you heard the unmistakable sound of the quarry being treed. This lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. No, it calls out only to a chosen few, and even fewer can answer the call. This is more than what you do. This is who you are.
I will see you Thursday, August 16th.

SB 1221 in Assembly Appropriations Committee
Take Action!
Please Keep SB 1221 in the Suspense File.
Good news but still more work to do!
SB 1221 the anti bear and bobcat hunting bill that passed the California Senate earlier this year, was heard in tbe Assembly Committee on Appropriations on Wednesday, August 8 where it was placed on the "suspense file."
The suspense file is a sort of legislative purgatory for California bills that fail to muster the votes necessary to pass but aren't quite dead yet. It is likely to be heard again on Thursday, August 16 when the suspense bills have another chance to be voted out. Because of this possibility, we are asking you to stay engaged and make contact once again.
The facts haven't changed.:
SB 1221 is a seriously flawed bill based on dogma rather than sound wildlife management principles. Natural resource management decisions, including method of take, should not be made by the State Legislature, but more appropriately by the California Fish and Game Commission, in a public forum and based on the best available science. Legislators who vote for this bill are circumventing the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) – a process established by the Legislature to make sure that natural resource policy decisions are subject to a scientific environmental review.
Unfortunately, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has mislead legislators as to the necessity of banning the use of hounds for hunting bears and bobcats, alleging that this measure has been successful in other states when the opposite is true. In both Washington and Oregon, statistics show that when hound hunting of these predators ceases, the number of maulings and attacks has increased.
Of the greatest importance, given California's serious budgetary problems, the Department of Finance testified during the August 8 hearing that SB 1221 would have a direct financial impact on the state, including the expected loss of approximately $400,000 in annual revenues to the Department of Fish and Game, resulting from the drop in hunting license and bear tag sales. This does not take into account the eventual cost to the state to manage a growing bear population, which has increased over the last 30 years to over 35,000 bears. The state will have to pay federal USDA hunters to control the bear population if hunting with hounds is no longer allowed. This cost needs to be considered.
Please contact the Governor, Speaker of the Assembly, and Members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee by email, phone and fax and urge them to keep SB 1221 in the Suspense file. Emails can be sent by clicking on the Take Action tab above. Phone numbers and faxes are listed below. Thank you for your help!

Re: BILL INTRODUCED TO BAN PURSUIT OF BEAR AND BOBCAT IN CA
WE ARE ALL FIGHTING THIS THING TOGETHER AND DOING WHAT WE EACH CAN, SO DON'T START BICKERING IN HOUSE NOW!
The bill did get passed the Assembly appropiations Committee and now it go's to the Assembly floor with ammendments and then will go back to the Senate floor because of the ammendment then it go's to the Govenors desk if it gets that far, we only lost this in the senate by 2 votes (22-15) so now we have to call the Assembly members and the senators.
The ammendments (as far as we know) are the biggest bunch of B.S. we have seen yet,
1. They will allow the use of dogs for research
2. The use of dogs for deperdation as long as they do not pursue the bears for more than a mile (some how) and they have to meet a ton of un-realistice requirments
3. Increase the price for bear tags for the non-Houndsmen to make up for the money lost by not allowing hounds.
This is what we have heard they are going to be but have not seen them in writting yet.

Re: BILL INTRODUCED TO BAN PURSUIT OF BEAR AND BOBCAT IN CA
I may make a few people mad with my post but, this is exactly what USDA wildlife services wants to happen. Laws like this keep them in business. Take away the scape goat and the public would not want this to happen. As long as there is someone willing to step in and cut the throat of sportsmen by killing "problem" animals and keeping it descreet, the nonhunting public can feel all warm and fuzzy because they think they did something to prevent cruelty even though they actually caused unethical killing.
