Re: Breed ID
cherry eye is a genetic condition. The surgery is very minor, and really only cosmetic. Cherry eye is not a problem for the dog--just hideous to look at. Its pretty common in hounds. Ask your vet about price, and if he wants to charge over $50, shop around and find a more reasonable vet.

Thanks. My cousin is a veterinarian, guess I could give him a ring too.Emily wrote:cherry eye is a genetic condition. The surgery is very minor, and really only cosmetic. Turns out the blueticks daddy was a lab, momma was a bluetick. He's really good at treeing ducks.Emily wrote:I'm thinking that red dog has some basset mixed in. The "bluetick may have some spaniel, setter, pointer or something in the bird dog family mixed in....

Ok here's a more current shot of the one we thought was a bluetick mix. His daddy was a black lab though. He does get up on our tree though with our redtick (mostly after squirrels because we live in the city, though we have tons of coons in the neighborhood.) I have to get a more current shot of the other pup as he's bigger to see if you think he's what he looked like as a pup.
