come on guys i know its not kill season yet but i know some of you like dewey, jc, tim just to mention a few are out there all the time. kinda curious as to how you guys see the season stacking up. and also how do the cats look. you guys are killing me i cant leave work until december 1st. i keep checking this dang plaace to hear you guys are have some success. but NO all i see is jc trying to amputate his arm. lol just kidding but seriously i heard from a biologist that it looked like cat numbers where down across the state (in oregon) so i am hoping this isnt true you guys wanna give me your imput

Newbie here Went out today and got on something I have only trained her on bobs so wasent sure what she was going after. She dosent run trash there were deer and coyote tracks all over the roads whitct she showed no intrest in. there wasent a big responce like I know she will do. so it could have been a long tail and she wasent sure or an old track that still made her curious. but the brush was thick and no snow so I called her back.

Bobcat numbers are way down in my area of Arizona. I am seeing very little sign in the 3 canyons I hunt. But I think its more due to the burn we had last year. Rabbits took a big hit from the fire, and it looked like they would come back but they must have taken another hit.. maybe predation or disease. Now that there is cover again on the ground I hope they come back for next year.

Our kill season starts in August but I try to wait until the fur is good.

I took a few foxes last week and the first two had good fur and ok skin but the 3rd was blue... so I will have to hold off a few more weeks. Its been hot here but had cooled off so I was hoping for better fur. Most years the fur is good by now...

I may have to try some canyons that didn't get burned for bobcats next month. Foxes are way up though, I think due to being more stuff they like to eat as well as being more open so they can see predators coming.

Remote limited access, locked gates, early snows etc. are the reasons bobcats survive in Oregon. Harder to find easy mainline cats. You must work for them, but they are there.

Jim cadwell a few years ago when I checked in my first cats told me they can "guess" the population by the data based on the jaws we have to check in. Which in my opinion is like just taking a high school and asking athletes which sports they like best for the whole schools opinion. Your mising a big chunk of information.

Anyways I've been doing decent the last few weeks, kinda upset at myself about a few things but ill just have to live and learn!

populations are fine where i go . the odfw are probebly just saying that so they can cut down on the tag numbers. charge the same amount for 2 tags as they are for 15 . exp.

Caught 4 so far here in northern WY. Our numbers seem really good this year. I've been seeing more tracks than ever and lots of females with kittens. Treed this tom last weekend.

Awesome picture. I am in the Northwestern corner of South Dakota in the prairie , and I have seen alot of signs along with ALOT of Jackrabbits and Cottontails. We havent gotten any snow either.

If I use my head and hunt with the weather, I usually get lucky without burning up all my gas. If I go out because I think I need to, it could be a long expensive hunt.

went hunting this morning . left my 3 coldest nosed dogs at home. never started a cat track. did have a little wiggle on one . if i would have brought one of the 3 i left home i bet i would have started that cat. i guess what im saying is , with the dogs i took i only would say there is one cat up there . if i would have taken vegas or lacey i would say there are 10 cats up there. not saying they would start any of them but they would let u know that a cat had been using the area. i took 5 dogs with me one im hunting for a friend and another i bought 2 days ago. thoughs 2 decided to run the wiley coyote . my 5yr old and my two 1 1/2 yr olds checked the track. i was very impressed with the 2 young dogs . they have been the most trash free dogs i have ever raised.
