Lion hunting over turned

Post by runnin akita »

Here in Oregon it is illegal to hunt lions with dogs. But despite being voted against this year the odfw overturned this and now the senete is going to vote on it. So cross your fingers we might be able to lion hunt once again. It also said in 94 we had a population of 3000 now with out hound hunting that number has grown to 6000 and thats the reson behind it all.

Cougar management plan County by County is slated in the Oregon legislature for the third year in a row. Currently Odfw uses USDA,Contractors and your dollars to eradicate Cougars in select management units across Oregon. Odfw had provisions passed in 2007 that would have allowed Odfw to use sport hunters to assist in management but opted to use Government instead for fear of potential law suits it was deemed better to sue the Federal Government than State Government in conjunction with sport hound hunters.

Those laws are on the books and the case has been made for the implementation of laws previously passed vs. going back one more time to the Oregon legislature By me with my District 17 rep. Here is what it takes on the legislative side. Bill gets introduced. Goes to the house for and vote that requires a 2/3 majority to pass since it falls under the crimes bill. This is easy but once cleared on the house floor it goes to the Senate floor controlled by Democrats by a margin of 16-14 or 30 total Senate members. Translation. Requires a 20 yes and 10 no minimum to pass. 6 Democrats must break party and vote in favor of legislation that is just not likely to happen.

This is the problem given liberals are like sheep and once the first one jumps off the cliff the rest follow....If this clears the Senate it must also be signed into law by another sheep named Governor John Kitzhaber who has the authority to veto any legislation he feels like doing, this rises to the top of his hit list. My position has been hashed out for implementing legislation alredy passed in 2007 and on the books as law. My question? why pass more legislation when it is the law of Oregon....Here is the problem. ODFW does not want you hunting cougar with your hounds when they have your dollars and USDA and Contractors.

Here is the deal. We get what we fight for and nothing more. Legislation is cheaper than petition drives. Getting people to donate the dollars needed is almost impossible to do. What is required are lots of emails flooding Salem with simple facts stating the obvious. Right now it cost around three thousand dollars for Government agents to kill a cougar in Oregon and they are being hauled to the landfill for disposal. Oregon is broke and has no money, this is a great time to get sending emails in opposition of Government intervention and the end results of the cougar being dumped like trash....Should be an easy sell right? Only if you send the emails and keep them pouring in to Salem. I will post a list of who to target asap.

Feel free to call and ask questions. I'm on the out side of my hunting and this does not impact me as much as it does you. I have had some damn good hunting over the last 40 years and know first hand what you all have been missing out on.When I see some of the young hunters out bobcat hunting with the kids, one in particular I looked at was a board member and his son petting the dog at a bobcat tree while wife and daughter were also present, from there the son harvest the cat....Then I think, dang, we could be doing the same thing with bear and cougar but instead bears are being snared and cougars are being landfilled and this is management?
The end results depend on you!

Thanks Buddy,

The proposal is going to be a County by County management program with the thought being the radical liberal counties can opt out and will. February is coming and this is when the full process begins. The legislation is drafted and is nothing new in Salem since it was presented and defeated twice in the last two years.

This will be another tough fought battle that will require all folks to give it there all.We can win if we fight. Looking at the level of dedication, I must agree with our Dist.17 Representative. This will be a Uphill battle, what has changed is more outcry from the landfilling of cougar and the "kill all" Government mandates including females and kitten cubs and the cost to sportsmen and tax paying citizens and more awareness of the simple fact that Animals are going to be managed in Oregon, one way or another and hounds are the only proven method of management for population control.

Dist 17 Rep. Sprenger is on the record as stating.....You don't like hounds, get over it! we are using hounds now and cougars are being killed by Government employees, funded by tax paying citizens not sport hunters as it should be.....
