First hunt of the season

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

Finished my first hunt of the winter, a great guy out of Maryland whom has MS. Little did he know how lucky he was, as he had been completely screwed over by some young so called guides in Utah which left a bad tast in his mouth. We had a great trip with on female lion treed and let go

we then turned out on a lynx track on day 2 and ended up leaving a beauty female still in the tree.

Day 3 was un eventfull but we did find a large tom track that was a few days old. This was one we would consentrate on for a while.
Day 4 spent trying to freshen up the track of the monster tom in snowless country.
Day 5
We turned out on a large tom lynx track and had our rear ends handed to us in a hard ran 8 mile race. Most of the 8 miles took place inside a 300yard circle
I collected the dogs up to continue on the look for the monster tom lion. Buuuut a large fresh lynx track delayed that for a while. A real beauty.

Day 6
started with a younger tom travelling with a female, we turned out and headed in to kill the tom if thats what they treed and cut a pig of a lion track.
Here is the tom we let walk hoping we could gain ground on the 24 hr ol track

When went down an turned the dogs on to the large snowed tom track. Daylight was leaving when i cut off the dogs and loaded them hoping we could catch up on the last day of the hunt. It was sad leaving a track the seemed really hot at dark but the dogs had made up a lot of ground.

Day7
Started preparing to spend the day in really rough country and a real long walk. Craig the hunt is visually impaired due to MS, this was his life long dream and we where close to filling his tag.
With tired and sore dogs we cut across country to start where we left off the day before, we had not gone fair when the dogs took off up the mountain and jumped Thomas off a kill 300 yards from where we left off the night before. 100 yards later this pig was treed and Craigs hunt was over.
It really ment a lot to him and he spent a good bit of time having a moment with the cat and the dogs with a tear in his eye.
check out this pig, he will score out of the book but who cares!!! :beer

Its good to see there are people out there that are willing to help out others with disabilities. A lot of people would not even attempt to take hunting someone with this type of medical disability. Congrats to you for fulfilling his life-long dream and congrats to Craig for harvesting a dang good tom!! Nice pictures and thanks for sharing!
