New hunter and pup. Got ?s

Post by Ol Bonita »

Hello. I am just new to the site been reading a lot. But anyways I got a new pup she is around 7 months old. I been using the drag on her and she is doing Awsome I did some 600 to 700 yard drags on her and she has no problem trailing and she's all on her own. The problems are that she never opens her mouth to bark or even whine when she's on the trail or at the tree. I showed her some cats and she wants them but never barked once at them. But other then that and probably some other things she is amazing I assume because this is the first lion dog I trained or in traning. Thanks for any help full advice to. I live in az if that makes a difference.

I meant 600 to 700 yard drags with her. And I meant just showed her the cats not run them

That pup is a pup don't get her bored let her be a pup. I wait a year till I take mine on a track just wait and it all falls into place. Don't mean to be a buzz kill but you need more than one pup. Let pup be pup and if she has any smarts she will start opening up with age you'll see. I live in mesa. Let me know if u have questions or advice 6024608078

Ya that makes sense let her be a pup. I figured if I start out with one dog and she turns out alright and starts running trails then I'll go get me another pup and have a good dog to train the new one. Thanks for the help and if your ever up in my area give me a call I know some really Awsome places to go run lion or bear I just don't got a finished dog to do it 928 7013373

Not many dogs are vocal on drags. Most will bark at live animals but id just wait and eventually you will hit a scent warm enough to get her to open

spend time just playing with that pup cause if u hit em hard with drags and scents its very easy for them to loose interest and just stop. when that pup hits a year old then pair her up or throw her in a pack and see how she does. not every dog turns out. its just the way it is. my 8 month bluetick from jeff allen plays ball in backyard with us and as soon as a cat comes in the yard its game on and he goes crazy so it just goes to show they know how to be a pup and still want to hunt so dont get discouraged and think you will ruin pup by playing and spending too much time with her on non hunting stuff. just u watch u will be suprised

That's great advise. I would only add that get her out in the woods and desert as much as possible too. Not necessarily to hunt but for your pup to get used to all the other sights, sounds, pricks and smells.
