Hi Guys and Gals,
I was hoping some of you would be willing to share what you bring with you when you leave the truck/atv/sled and strike out on foot. I can imagine there is a pretty good balance to be found in what you can carry when you don't really know how far you will have to walk and seeing as I am new to hound hunting I thought this would be a good way to learn some things about the sport and to better prepare myself for this coming season. I am sure #1 and #2 on the list would be a gun and a camera but what else do you bring with you? Have you discovered anything that you have found useful that others may not know about, or have you ever been on a track for some time and said "dang I wish I brought ______"
Thanks for the advice in advance folks, I look forward to reading what you have to say.

Re: What do you bring to the tree?
I'd be interested to see what others say about this also. I just always have:
-picture/video camera
-headlamp
-leash
-water
-some small snacks
-extra pair of gloves
-a few extra batteries
-a couple handwarmers
I'm sure there's better lists than this out there

The minimal amount of clothing and suppies to keep you alive (completely depends on where you are), a leash or two, a pocket knife, and a gun if you have intentions of shooting a critter.
It sure isn't Canada down here, but back in the good old days before tracking collars. I headed hit the woods carrying a pocketknife, toilet paper, and small flashlight in my coat pockets, a leash around my shoulder, and a gun on my belt. Spend all day and half the night, or all night and half the day, hiking the woods and most of the time trying to figure out where the dogs had gone and trying to get back "into hearing".
If I was you I would approach this question more from the direction of what can I leave behind.
I was looking through my SMALL backpack the other night, taking out all the extra crap that just seems to accumulate in there. Cool stuff that isn't really necessary, gets carried around for miles, just in case it might come in handy.

I take most of the stuff everyone is talking about really the only other thing I take is para cord. Not very heavy and can use it for a few different things. Someone always seems to forget a leash or two so it makes a easy leash. Tie hides onto backs and doubled it up to pull dogs up ledges.

Pack
License
Water
Fire Starter
Staple gun
G3 Shock controller
Camera
Video Camera
Leashes
Flashlight
Scale that doesn't work
And.... I'm gonna catch $hit for this.... Paying Client, and skinning knife.
(The paying client is by far the hardest thing to pack in and out!)

Re: What do you bring to the tree?
Yea I think you nailed that one on the head some clients are harder to pack than a sorry pup up through the ledges. To bad you can't leave a coat out for them and come pick them up in the morning when they are like that. Just kidding I love being out with clients honestly, but for what goes into a lion hunt they get a good deal no matter what the cost. Another thing to keep in mind is as tough as many lion hunters are at roughing it. If you have a client there you better have what you need plus 10 times to cover some clients. Have had the opportunity to have some long nights with clients a time or two it makes for good memories, but may influence the clients mood to say the least.
