Shed hunting with surprise ending

Post by killroy »

The other day I got a call from a friend of mine, Ken, that his son Kody was out shed hunting and had found a lion kill, a cow elk. They looked over and saw the lion in the cedar trees.
I have been helping them get started in hunting with hounds. They were loading thier dogs and wanted to know if I could help them. But I had my two daughters and four grandkids up from Cedar City. I had not seen them in awhile and needed to spend time with them. I talked to our nephew Wyatt who is sixteen and has hunted with me a lot if he would like to go load some of our dogs and go with them. He was really excited to go help.
From what I was told this is how the hunt went. They got to the kill at 4pm. Hank picked up the trail and all the dogs were off. After an hour or so the dogs jumped the lion. The hunters saw the lion running in front of the dogs but were disappointed when they caught up to the dogs on some bad ledges and no lion. Hank was working the ledges but seemed to have lost it.
It was getting late so they decided to get the dogs and head back. After leashing up the dogs they realized that Josie was still out and was on the ledges treeing. They tried to call her up but she would not come. So they headed down and were surprised to find her face to face with the lion, holding it on the ledge, Kody was able to get in and take this big tom.
