prices of dogs

Just wondering what everyone elses opinions are on the prices of dogs personally the best dogs I have had been free or 100 bucks as pups. I think it is outragious when I see dogs for sale for 4000 dollars or more I think a lot of people think that their dogs are worth more than they are but when I sell a dog I think reasinably. I don't think I would pay more than 300 bucks for a started dog. I have seen people that buy dogs for 1000 bucks and the dogs are below average dogs.

After you have owned or hunted behind a true top shelf dog you will understand why they are priced the way they are. 99% of dogs that are for sale have holes in them that are not making the owner happy and that is why they are for sale. not to say they would not make some one else happy or fit into there pack. Take the time to figure out what it will cost you to make a great dog out of a pup and you will see the 200 you spend on the pup is the cheapest part of starting a hound.

If you sell fur a dog pays for its self in a year if you can put them on enough game.

A dog is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.... if the market is there and the right person is looking and they are needing a top shelf dog they will/would be willing to pay a lot of money for a solid dog, (i know i would be). Any mutt can chase an easy bear, one that runs for 20 min and trees, but when you have a dog, when the chips are down, dogs falling out, hitting the rd, etc will stay on that mean bear from daylight to dark, and either ends up treeing it or stays bayed till you can fire some help in, those dogs are worth there weight in gold.. I have had an offer on a dog i have now for a lot of money, didn't take it and won't sell him, but i would pay that amount for another one just like him in a heartbeat. my 2 cents.

i dont know about you but every time i go bear hunting its a hundred dollar bill at the very least. when i go go cat hunting its at least 40 dollars a hunt in fuel.coon hunting another 20 dollars a hunt now put food bait and vet bills to that an time getting your dog straight on good game and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that you have money that far exceeds the price of a quality hound and the hunters that truly know what im talking about have no problem paying for experience in the field so look at this in a few years and see if your opinion changes.ps i have been told by a lot of hunters the best dog they ever owned was free and usually they have a dog they want to give me lol

I have been at this game awhile. And I agree with rookie. People are crazy on their prices. I think 1000 should be max for a dog. It is absolutly crazy to pay any more than that. I don't care what caliber of dog it is. I have sold top shelf dogs for 800$. It all boils down to greed.

all i can say is keep track of money that goes in to making a hound from a pup to a good caliber hound not to even mention the time and culls. you will find selling them at 800 to 1000 you are losing money .when you buy a top hound your not just buying a hound your buying experience and skills they have .if you get a dog for free and turn it into a good one with all your hard work and money you should give it away for free right. now if someone is selling crap that cant get it done and should be culled thats where your gripe should hang in my opinion.
