Question On False Pregnant Dog

Well we Bred my female she got all fat and bagged up like she was pregnant the due date came and then two weeks later no pups took her to the vet and she was false prego. I know others have had this I was just wondering how it went for the future of the dog and if there was anything to watch or anything i need to do thanks so much.

One of my female is 9 she has false pregs every couple of years had to take her to the vet because she had cancer in her female parts and had to be spade the vet said that if you have a female that keeps having false pregs to get them fixed because its a sign of cancer and if you don't catch it in time they can bleed out in side

Thank You very much if she does it again i will just spay her, she is a great dog and i would hate to loose her i just want some pups out of her ya know

We have our old Lab that is around 14 years old and she still goes through a false pregnancy sometimes. She willget huge andeven get milk. She nest all her stuff and anything she can get from my wife...shoes, coat, just anything that my wife owns. She has put out some great hunting dogs but she can also fool us. It is something we get a kick out of. No worries.

Over the years I have had several that had false pregnacies.. the first the vet wanted to spay-- I said no.. 6 months later I got that litter I wanted.. the next time around she did OK again..
then a daughter of her did it.. same story.
the new vets are pretty well indoctrinated to spay and neuter at the liberal greenie colleges.
The male I have now is from a female that had several false pregs.

False pregnancies do not indicate a higher risk of cancer. Having an intact animal just about doubles the chance of cancer though. Having a female go thru heat without being bred increases the risk of cancer every time, and pyometra is always a risk. Best thing for a dog is to breed it, then have it spayed/neutered. Breeding a female back to back is actually far better, than letting the uterus go dormant for many years between litters, and subject the body to all those hormones for years for no reason. So spaying/neutering is healthier in the long run. But if you plan on breeding, flase pregnancies isn't a reason to spay.

That said, most ALL dogs that get up there in age will have some form of cancer/tumor. Genetics, food, environment, just plain bad luck.

Thank you guys for all your input i really hope she gets better i took her out this weekend and she still hunted hard, she is just pretty over weight and a little slow, but she will get back to it.
