South Dakota to allow hounds!

I heard on the radio yesterday that the governor just signed a bill that would allow the use of hounds to hunt lions in S.D. All I can say is that it's about time! I guess we can chalk this one up as a victory for houndsmen. I hope all the hunters that are going to take advantage of this new law will remember to be responsible hunters and set a good example for everybody that's going to be looking for a reason to get this law repealed. There's several special interests groups that are very active in the Black Hills and they'll be monitoring the hunt very closely, so behave yourselves!

Just a word of advise if these special interest groups see large numbers of females and kittens harvested you can bet you next bag of food on the shutting you down!

I read some follow-up on this and its not as it seems. The bill would let you use dogs to retrieve a lion that was shot by some other method but not recovered. The dog would have to be on leash. It also applies to other big game animals.

Nolte that is correct. I read it in the paper this morning. I guess their was a misuderstanding in the law. But in my opion they should pass it because it doesn't look like they will meet their quota of 100 lions by close of season.

So did they pass a hound use bill for the pursuit of lions or not ?

I am reading the current issue of American hunter and on page 23 it states the Gov. of south Dakota signed a bill that will allow dogs to be used by hunters in the pursuit of mountain lions.

Is this new or like stated above just a partial law allowing the use to find a wounded cat and be on a leash ?
