Craziest crosses you've seen that actually worked

Post by Hunter »

What are some of the craziest crossed up dogs or breed that you wouldn't expect that would actually tree or catch game? My brother-in-law had a mini Poodle that would catch every hog it saw. He also had a Boston terrier X Rat terrier X fiest that is a legend around here. He treed anything he put him on and he treed more bear with that dog than all the dogs he's ever own totalled. I once had a registard lab that would tree coon before my B&Ts and walkers. My wifes springer spanial will tree coon and runs (and catches) rabbits better than the neighbors beagels. They actually let there pups run loose with her to train them.

Rhodesian Ridgeback, Plott Hound, and Airedale...totally silent, bred for hog, but she will bay the hell out of anything on the ground and trees really pretty decent...ugly mouth though.

I seen a litter of 4 females that were 1/4 Walker, 1/4 Cur and half patterdale and believe it or not the dam was the patterdale. Them for gyps are to this day the game catchinest little shits I have ever seen in my life. Nothin bigger than a coon but from rabbits, to squirrel, to possum and coon they will empty out a timber. They are deadly on anything and they tree extremely hard and do not mill a damn bit.

I crossed a black and tan with a 1/2 bordercollie,1/4 golden lab 1/4 german shepard. I kept two of the pups and use them on bear and lion. These dogs get it done. They have been under 38 trees and the just turned 15 months. The craziest thing is the female, Cookie has led every race start to finish.

no...i don't hunt hogs but the guy i got her from was a hog hunter...he said he liked them. like i said they were bred specifically FOR hog hunting, i just thought i would try her on some other game. not as much prey drive as i like from a good hound, but she handles like a dream until she gets locked in on something then she's deaf, must be the plott LOL.

hillbilly, she actually looks a lot like your red dog only with a little white on her chest. here's the rest of the funny cross story: she accidentally got bred by a registered black lab and threw a nice litter of plott looking pups, all blacks and brindles. wish i could have kept one of them to give 'em a shot, but i didn't have room.

My Buddy has a Jagdterrier/Walker. She is a great little dog. She's hell on Coons, Coyotes, and Hogs. Decent bird dog too.
