Rod Vinson's Good Fox Race

Post by Dads dogboy »

Folks,

Here is a Good Story from BGH Member Mr. Rod Vinson about running Grey Fox in the Fields on the East Coast this time of the year.

Well after reading the post that the goat hunters posted from the weekend, I went and bought all my mutts floaties to avoid loosing any if they try to pursue the game in water cause I can't afford to lose anymore this year.....however the beans, sorghum, tobacco and briars beat them off the mutts so I hope they can swim.......

I pulled up to a spot around 5:50 am and still to dark in case they hit the road while folks where headed to work (or fire..as fast as they drive).... about 6:20 it got light enuff that I thought everything would be ok... while I was putting on my chaps and long sleeve shirt before light I noticed trax under my feet at the road and they were leading down the muddy path, so I got Psycho and Mo out and they were spinning like a top trying to find the hottest track leaving the path and the grown up brush around the old barns and such... and soon Psycho screamed come on... soon Mo covered her like the frost and I sent 6 or 7 more and soon they all were tracking the fox and some came back to the path where the fox took a dump in the road with persimmon seeds inbedded in it ( side note: An old timer once said that when they get persimmons in their belly they are hard to catch)...I knew then that the fox had lightened the load and was ready for battle...Soon Pearl tied to him in the middle of the bean field and I sent her the rest of the crew and it wasn't just a minute before the opry was at its finest. Up and down the beans then crossed into the sorghum and the pace picked up and soon the fox had carried them to the thick branch and was going around the end of the field and leaving me... I soon saw they were going through a bacco patch and headed to some more beans, so I got back to the truck and circled around, I saw on the tv screen they were in the road and then turned back by the time I pulled up and back through the bacco and back to where we started at and by the time I got to the back they were circling the beans and crossed into the sorghum field and instead of coming back to the back the rascal was headed toward the front to the busy hwy... so I turned around and headed out when I saw the fox cross rite at the hwy and went back into some more row beans next to the road and he was long as a bacco stick... I pulled to the hwy with flashers on and orange flag to slow traffic as the fox was trying swing the dogs in front of them cars to get some relief... then he made a break and headed back to the back and was coming to the path and Super Star tried to cut the race short rite there but he made it back to the sorghum.... up and down them rows, then he went out to the thick branch and made a sharp turn back down the other side of the creek and went out to the hwy through a bacco patch and out in front of cars and through yards and around houses and I was watching on radar while I was trying to get around there and I could hear horns blowing and brakes squealing....... went I arrived they were in a branch behind a house in a DEATH roar....then silence....game over....1 hour 22 minutes of battle with a seed fox.... I sure hope he passed on them genes cause he was a good un............Good Day!!
