NEED HELP OR ADVICE PLEASE!

I bought some finished hounds last year from arizona and am very confident in them! I didnt get to hunt them much last winter but legged them up and got them ready for the new mexico bear season! Monday i ran them on a bear i had seen earlier that morning so i knew exactly where to start so when i di the dogs got on the track right away and began to run it they went hard for a quarter mile or so and then ran back to me, it was about 91 degrees so i thought it might have just been too hot but this evening i saw another bear went home got my dogs and put them on a hot trail once again the dogs took it right away and ran it for maybe 75 yards and then came back to me as i was following them why do they keep doing this and what do i need to do to keep the trailing without checking back in with me ? Please help any advice is appreciated

The bad news is when they catch the bear they're done! Did you see them tree a bear BY THEMSELVES when you bought them?

Yes they treed a bear for me about a month ago when i was exercising them by themselves they have also treed bobcats for me before it just seems like they want to check in with me for some reason

x 2 if you didnot see these dogs catch bears by them selves before you bought them shame on you , i dont know how many times i have posted to that same thing never by a dog that you dont hunt first , always hunt just the dog your going to bye if thay cant do by them selves dont bye them sorry ....jim

Maybe they just don't care for a mean one .I use to bear hunt my cat dogs when it was legal here .They would tree some but if they got after a bad one they would come back on the run! If you're a bear hunter that's not good.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news .Maybe some big game hunters on here have some different ideas.

The good news is if they can tree cats,you can probably get your money back or just enjoy can hunting.

Whell i bought these dogs as cat dogs only one of them has run bear i just figured since they treed one while they were exercising that i would use them as bear dogs too!

I agree with the others. What is probably happening is that the bear is stopping to put up a fight and the dogs are quitting. Don't feel bad, it's the same for a LOT of dogs. You've got a couple options, either get some "tougher" dogs that want to stay caught and catch or look for smaller runner bear and they'll probably run the ones that want to just run.

You might be surprised if you get a "tough" dog in the mix that the others will stay better. Its' amazing how one good catch dog can perk up the others. But be weary, everyone and their brother has a yard full of gritty bear dogs in the yard wanting to sell them. The funny part is there aren't many in the dog box when the crap hits the fan.

That's good!I was afraid you got burnt on some supposed to be bear dogs.Do like Nolte said and find a old or young dog out of bear stock that's not afraid to catch.Put him with your other dogs and you can probably catch a few bear!
