Great Hunt with Chilcotin Hillbilly

Post by Mikes Hero »

I just returned from BC, where I hunted with the Chilcotin Hillbilly. This was a great hunt with a great family in a great area. I am very happy that I took Mr. Hillbilly up on his great offer to run lynx.

We hunted a total of 6 days, caught 6 lynx, and the biggest lion that I have ever seen. This is a great area, it is "statistically impossible" to check some of the roads and not find runnable lynx tracks everyday. We litterally spotted one of the cats we caught sitting in the middle of the road.

I highly recommend this hunt to any of you guys that want to run lynx. Oh ya, and in addition to the great hunting, you will be hosted by Mrs. Hillbilly with some awesome cooking. And you will have your very own, very comfortable cabin to stay in also. This was truely an experience of a lifetime and I plan to return each winter.

Congrats Tyler!
Looks like you and Doug had a blast. That lion must be the same Doug figured he treed a few years back and is a dandy....I talked to Doug that evening high on a ridge. I walked to the top for service in the coast range of Oregon in the rain, wind blowing,dark.....All I could think of was what the heck am I doing hunting in the wind and rain when I should be hunting in Canada....Paradise defined! You think the cat hunting is great, you need to hunt spring bear. The birth of the phrase "Stastically impossible"......Sure you got the low down on that? When you book a hunt and think about it being the right choice or not, sure makes you feel good when you get after the game in grand style! I see Hans got to look at a lynx today....

Take care, Mike

Mike, sorry for the slow response. Have been hunting here and not paying that much attention to the internet. I really did have a great time, and yes, I was told about the phrase "statistically impossible." I did'nt realize, however, that this phrase does fit that area, and specifically the road in question. I am just waiting for Mr. Hillbilly to send me pictures of his client this week holding the tom we caught last week.

Tyler

I think Hans just got tired of seeing lynx the size of a pickup truck and harvested one. I bet he had an absolute blast running lynx and lions. That country is very deceptive for having little or few roads the way the country lays out and the game runs, it is a great hound hunting area. Too bad it is infested with wolves.

Hey, you ever get over here, look me up....

Take Care!

He he, no chance I was tired of seeing them beutiful lynx's treed Mr. Martel! - I liked them so much I've alredy started to put things together to make a new hunt at The Hillbillies place.
You are right on the other though. It was a blast, waaay better that I dared hope for before the trip.

In BC you can harvest lynx with dogs, as far as i know it the only place. I take alot of lynx hunters each season and 1/2 are houndsmen want to chase lynx.
Caught one yesterday and two today.

That is news to me haha! I just always thought they were a protected animal but I bet that would be one hell of a thing to see in the tree :D would love to go on that hunt someday
