Thanks.. Was to windy and cold today to take the dogs out, tomorrow should be better. Found a few tracks here and there so it looks like there are going to be some around..
Went for a drive this A.M. just to look for sign and I got about 2 miles from town and turned onto my route. Get about a 1/2 mile down the road and a coyote pops up out of the road ditch. couldn't get the gun loaded fast enough so it got away. Oh well I know tomorrow will be a better day and I have this coyotes addy so it won't be to hard to find with the dogs..
Good luck with your season..

Did that wet snow harden up with this cold snap? Central Wis. got rain all day before this cold hit, nice ice sheet on top, now we'll need 8" on top to loosen it up again. Got a couple of good cat races in before the rain but it looks like a long wait before dogs get turned loose again.

Yes the snow firmed up a bit but still not hard enough to hold a coyote cept along the fence lines. Little tough in some places to see bottom of track as the snow falls back into the track as they move.. Lots of coyote sign around so it should be another good season..

Bunch of us came over and hunted about a half hour south of Wabeno a few yrs ago. Tell ya what, we don't have field dogs. Coyotes would be 2 sections away before the dogs got out of the first. Would be a cool place to watch some sight dogs at work. Seems a dog used to the timber is dumber than a box of rocks in open country.

Yep that's one of the things you have to deal with when using fast dogs and too many of them as you end up pushing the coyotes out of the section to fast. I looked at other breeds before I decide on a dog and a few friends from other boards helped me with my choice.
Decided on a big Red bone, she is not real fast but stays on track and keeps the coyote loping along at a easy pace and also big enough to make a coyote think twice about fighting it out..
I only run one dog for coyotes but decided to add another last spring. I went the opposite direction as far as size goes and went smaller with tight feet. Hope she can pick up the pace a little when hunting large areas and carry better on the snow and also be a relief dog so I can keep my big girl going when I need her most...
