Buddy of mine has had a few . The ones I've seen were big boned ,heavy dogs . Not super fast , good tree dogs ,but seemed to kinda burn out by 7 or 8 yrs old .This is just the ones I've seen . I do believe Dan catches a lot of game so they must work pretty well for him Probably ask ten different guys and get ten different opinions .

Back in the 80's Les Scheffer of Rosebud TX had one-- (I got to hunt with him several times) he got "Moose" from Dan.. that hound was big-- if anyone ever called Moose slow, they had never hunted with him.. when he got a track warmed up you could hear the excitement in his voice. Treed back a couple of steps from the base of the tree with his eyes up, looking at the game.

I have hunted them and still have some of Dan's bloodlines in my old strain hounds. Awesome dogs! and Driftwood I agree I have seen a 90 pound Layser that could smoke tracks other dogs struggled with, and on a decent track WOW!!

they are very rare in the states these days although Dan and his son are still raising them in B.C. .

There is an old saying that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Well that rings true for hounds as well. If a person could see a photo of all the big game, Cougar, black bear, grizzley bears and such that Dan's hounds have caught over the years it would be mind blowing.

We have some Dan Ley blood left in our dogs as well. 3 males that are 1/4 Ley. Also hunted full and half blood Ley dogs. They seem to be great dogs from what I've seen.

I have a buddy with a couple right now. He loaned me one he had a few years back for the winter. Great dog and could go all day every day. My buddy made a statement awhile back that I remember well.
He said he'd never got a bad pup from Dan & Kyle

I had two full blood dogs that I went up and picked up from Dan. Dan and his wife are great people. His dogs are a little bigger than I personally like, but they were all great cold nosed dogs that went hunting. Dogs that were bred to catch about anything out there in the worst of conditions. I highly recommend Dan and his bloodlines.

If you want to find dan lay not ley. Look up layser hounds. And it makes me sick that no one can leave his blood alone. Does Dan know all you guys breed the hair of his dogs. Keep making posts like this you'll have less and less layser hounds in the states. And up here in Canada u need the size. Things get tuff in 5 or 6 feet of snow without size.

Wow! Must not be able to read. I have seen nothing but great posts about his hounds. Who can get mad at anybody for breeding for a better hound.

One of the conditions on getting a layser hound is a no breeding policy . breed them once and you will never get another
