telemetry collars.

Post by cattrak »

So, I am looking at telemetry collars now. I have the Garmin alpha 100 and tt10 collars, but thinking of adding the Marshall powermax with LED's and a Marshall 800 reciever. My question is, should i order all my telemetry collars with the same frequency or different frequencies? Or do I even have an optiion when ordering? I have never used telemetry. But from what I have read and talking with others, Telemetry is a real life saver when trying to find a lost dog or when tt10's battery goes dead.

You need your collars to be different frequencies so you know which dog you are tracking. Also, you want to make sure the frequencies are spread out a little so you don't get interference making you think you are tracking one dog when you are really picking up a different dog. So you don't want to get say, 216.135 and 216.145 get 216.135 and 216.650 or something like that. Give them some space because as the temperature changes the actual frequency transmitted by the collar changes a little bit and if they are to close together you'll have problems.

You can always buy new, but there is usually a few ads a week on here for used telemetry collars.

This is my setup it's a Marshall on a dc-50. I run the same freq. Say u run 216 freq. then I like to b able to change 1 number in the last 3 digits 216.525,216.625,216.725 n so on. That's what works for me. I very rarely use the beep but just not enough battery life in the Garmins for me not to .

I have johnson collars and wildlife machine. This set up works good for me. I do have a Marshall collar but it doesn't have the range like the Johnson's. Johnson's are sealed batts and the Marshall is changeable battery.
