Lost signal on GPS

Just about every time I run I lose the signal. I run a garmin astro with DC 40 collars and the long range antenna on the gps unit. I have never tried radio transmitter type collars. Anyone have any opinions or advice? Thanks - cat walker

Is the collar loosing the GPS signal or the communication signal. The DC40's were prone to loosing the GPS signal.

My advice would be to try and sell those and get DC30's or DC50's.

Last year I would have recomended having our Mod service done on the collars because we couldn't get DC30's and the DC50's were not available. We offer a service to try and help the DC40's although I really don't want to do many of them becasuse it doesn't make allot of Sense now, and with the options available it's normally not worth 50 dollars to do it, when you can sell it and probably buy a DC30 for about the same price if not a little cheaper when you factor in the 50 dollar service fee.

Yes I lose GPS signal. I didn't have a problem with the dc 30. Ill be looking in to get rid of the dc40s.

Those collars have terrible antennas even the dc 30 will eventually give u problems we designed our own braded wire antenna and ever since all my dc 30 collars work better then ever ( antennas on the collars that is) they sell a tough skin antenna but its kind of big and bulky.the ones we made are like the ones on the regular trackers braded steel wire coated

By the sounds of it the dc 40s are poison. Anyone run the dc50s?

I run both GPS and telemetry collars. Sometimes hounds get where GPS collars even DC 30's lose reception, or are out long enough that the gps collars go dead. Telemetry collars can be tracked farther and last for several thousand hours when new, depending on manufacturer.

Ya same here I put my shocker on a wild life collar just in case but between all the collars on my dogs they look like there packing a bundle I wish I could afford that alpha it's pricey not to mention hunting 8 dogs it takes an extra 20 min each morning just to get all the right collars on the right dogs

I run both GPS and Telemetry collars on my dogs its a safer bet in case something happens to the GPS collar. I hog hunt so ive had the collars destroyed by boar's, GPS antenna wires cut/bit same for the VHF antenna etc. Telemetry just gives me a piece of mind I can find my dogs if the GPS fails for some reason.

That's some thick country there what island r u on . Is there any grey fox or bobcats there

I've been using the 50s since they have been out we hunt deep canyons and very thick woods signal almost always if i do lose it it picks right back up.
