"Well I guess I'm sorry to Tim for expressing too harshly my opinion about his comment "why buy a cat dog from Idaho?" I didn't know it would upset his girlfriend so much.
Believe it or not folks, but a cat dog is a cat dog no matter where it was born and raised. Transition is understandable, but a trained cat dog should be looking for cat even if it doesn't shine in all environments. There are as many sheister's in Oregon as in other cathound haunts. Be wary about spending $ on any made dog.
Happy New Year.

Well said, Cobalt. Its more about the person than the area or the dog. There are far too many factors involved to buy a dog on a mans word unless you know the man, trust him, and also know what his idea of a good dog is. One mans junk, is another mans treasure. There are dog jockeys everywhere and there are also self promoters out there who think anything outside their yard is a cull and they will be the first to sing their own praises. I do have to admit, though, that this thread has me worried. I just had a litter of pups. The mom is from Wa, dad is from Or and the pups were born in Id. Sounds like I'm doomed. hahahaha

Awh, you're to nice cobalt, I just got all warm and fuzzy. Maybe you could point this guy in the right direction and list some of these straight bob hunters and what kind of dogs they're running for this guy and the rest of us, since there's levels beyond what us poor guys stuck with these middle of the road dogs, that we are hunting.????? I don't care what color they are, you outta know that by now, we talked enough privately , you know where I stand. I give your name and number to people looking for blueticks and you still think I'm bashing you all the time?? I was just funna ya on the other post, I told ya that! Come on man, don't hold any grudges with me, I don't have nothing against you.

tim is mostly correct in saying that most guys in id hunt the snow.most of the time here in Idaho when you talk to a cat hunter he means lions. I also ran into that when I moved here years ago. on the coast it don't snow as much as it does here for one and we can legaly hunt bears and lions while most of the coastal guys cant. for most of the hunters here its unspeakable to pass up a lion track waiting for a bob . I catch hell most every time I break down and go with another houndsman for doing just that. no need for pissin matches cause hunters hunt different every where I go it seems....jmo can only think of two people or families I would buy a dog site unseen from and I know a lot of people.....just sayin
no mater if you think you can or you think you cant,, you are probably rite.

I agree with that Old man. There are a couple guys in Idaho, one in particular who produces dogs especially for bobcat. They are Lipper/Coma and old Vaughn blueticks. Fox hunter is another guy who, if he says he's got a bobcat dog for sale, you could bank on it being a serious bobcat dog even if it runs other tree game. The issue for me is not that there are a whole lot of top bobcat dogs in Idaho, it's more of a human issue, not a dog issue. Merlo has proved that. Another thing is if you are going to think outside the box, then get out of the box. Tim, I like you and don't really take offense to your point of view, I just choose to check you on some of your statements. You have not hunted hounds successfully for very long and have only hunted bobcat, so you put it on some kind of pedistal. The undeserved "eliteness" of the bobcat hunters on this site leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Tim, you have good dogs because you have made good dogs. If you had started under different tutelage in a different part of the world, you may have found yourself in a different mindset. Attidude is what I challenge most on the BGH site (and idiots like twist who have no business breeding dogs). There are very few concrete right answers to the questions posed on this site and so many wrong ones. I feel somehow possessed to disclaim some of the statements that apply to readers that are trying to make sense of right and wrong, even if I'm wrong in doing so. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Cobalt, shot in the dark here but maybe you know. A buddy of mine brought me a pup years ago that came from somewhere in southern Idaho. It was a blue dog but not the big bluetick type dog. Racey built, around 50lbs, but all blue. He said the guy just did his own thing and bred these dogs for cat hunting. Sound familiar???

Mr.twist
Just because Cobalt is humble enough to exclude himself from what he previously posted, does not mean he, or his dogs are lacking in the woods in any fashion. I am 11 years into the sport, and still go to him for answers, ideas, etc. Your ignorance is evident each, and every time you post. If you could get past your ego, and think outside the box you could learn a lot from Cobalt, Merlo, and the others you are so quick to disbelieve, and criticize.

Sorry all for highjacking the post, just wanted to set the record straight about a freind.

Always be cautious when buying a dog. You're much better off to go to the seller and try the dog on his grounds, tell him to leave his other dogs at home .You're only interested in seeing the dog that he has for sale.A lot of times these crooks run as a pack, one of them will make a false statement and then one of his buddies will swear that it's true.My point here is that you should check on the reputation of the man who has the dog for sale.I think that will tell you all you need to know .Just remember all crooks are out to take someone else's money and they won't let the truth get in their way.

Sorry jcathunter, the only breeder of blues that I know for a fact who has bred dogs for bobcat is from pretty much north central Idaho. There are a couple guys who run blue dogs on lion and bobcat in s. Idaho that are smokey river bred and Vaughn bred. I've heard of them but don't know their names. I wish I could be more help but I'm a transplant here from the Medford, Oregon area and don't know a whole lot of hound guys here.

Ok thanks. I figured it was worth a shot. I'd like to have one of those dogs again if I could find one. He had an amazing nose on him. Since moving over here, it seems like these cats tend to cover more ground so it can take awhile to get them jumped. That ol blue dog of mine would have been perfect around here.
