why are they not more popular
IMO they will get there last, feet and joints will not hold up, all they are is something to look at, unless of course you decided to ride them to the tree, then they might be worth feeding. Look at people, how many 200- 300 pounders do you see that are athletic? a few maybe, but for the most part, the best athletes are built like athletes, same with dogs.

There is nothing wrong with them if this is the type of dog you like
Dogs change with the people you hunt with
Does this make one dog better then another nope
When somebody starts feeding my dogs or hunts with them then they can have a opinion

I will agree that a big "old fashioned" type hound that can even just hang with these "modern" speed demon types is rare and hard to find. Even more rare, almost impossible is one that could lead the pack. The pup in the above pic is 11 mo. old and at 8 mo'.s he started showing me that it may be possible. I put him and his full Cameron father down on a female lion that is notorius for not treeing. Her M.O. is bay-up and run - all day ... until she can loose the dogs in the rims. She doesn't get caught very often. On this morning it was 13 degrees at 7:30 a.m. There was only about 40% patch snow, which was glazed over hard and the rest was frozen mud. The temp. went up to 50 degrees by noon. They bayed her up three times and every time I got close she would jump and run again. At dark they had her again but I couldn't get up through the cliffs. I spent the night in the truck listening to their collars. At 6:00 a.m. I went to town for more food and water. I got back at 8:00 a.m. and they were gone. They had left the country. I pulled out and started searching. At 2:30 in the afternoon I got a signal and could only get within 3 1/2 miles of them so I put on the snowshoes and walked in. When I got to them they had her treed by an old kill 12 miles from where we started. Now this was the first wild game track this pup had ever scented. I saw most of the race the previous day and this pup was not me too-ing it. So anything is possible no matter how improbable. They are out there ... but they are few and far between.
Here is a pic of the country we were in - 1800 foot of vertical ...(refresh to see pic)

Dude... The guy asked why you don't see more of the Majestic types and a few of us gave reasons why we think... We are not picking on you or your dogs.. Just giving our opinion on why we think they won't work for us... Feed and hunt what you want... But if someone asks for an opinion then you might hear something you don't agree with... No big deal about it...

Apparently he's sore because he didn't even think about the possibility of riding them to the tree, guess he needs to go get some saddles made now. As far as dogs changing with the people you hunt with, some ARE gonna be bertter than others. If you like having an inferior dog that will not be able to put up as much game as another breed and not be able to hold up to the conditions as well, and eat more, be slower, and all around inferior to other alternatives out there, then by all means, there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you like. I personally would not like that though, so I'll stick with a modern weapon, not an old cap and ball gun, thanks anyway
