Aspiring houndsman from Co

Post by danjcossey »

Hello from Colorado. My significant other and I have been talking about getting a puppy for a while now, and both of us being avid outdoorsman/woman, are wanting to purchase a hound. This will be a first for me. I have always been passionate about hunting, but I've never hunted with any kind of dog. I am wanting to start with a pup and make a bobcat dog out of him/her. Any advice for a complete greenhorn?

Hello Dan depending on how soon you want to start hunting I would get a started dawg and then if get a pup and run it with your started hound. Its a lot easier that way. I live in Colorado springs so of you got any other ? Or need suggestions give me a holler.

Not to get political, but that's good 'ole Chickenlooper for ya, legalize drugs and take away our guns....

Thanks for the replies and welcomes guys, I'm hoping to get started here soon. I'm getting cabin fever pretty bad, and I'm wanting to start chasing some kitties.

Good luck in the new sport. It is one that takes a ton of time but can be pretty rewarding.

I am currently reading a pretty well done bobcat book, as I'm learning this cat hunting stuff too. The link is here : http://www.dusupply.com/bobcat-dog-book ... ghtal.html

It is nothing like getting real world experience (and it can get a little too deep in theory at times) but really does gives some good background on the bobcat sport. Might be just the ticket for you to get introduced to running bobcats with hounds.
