Sorry race last night
Had a pitiful race last night, found a fox track and turned loose in the vicinity I figgered the fox went. They struck and trailed a little and it got a little better, thought they were going to get under him but just followed him around for about an hour than finally got under him. I thought it was on than for at least a couple hours but they made a loose that took then five min. To pickup than it was back to following again. It really acted more like a wildcat than a fox. If I didn't know the hounds involved as good as I do I would have sworn they were running rabbits.

Been there done that here too. Seen nights where they just couldn't get under him. Also learned something about fox when I was a teen Ager. I had about 15 dogs loaded one night and was looking for a track or one to cross the road and I came around a curve and a big yellow buff red came across the road in front of the truck. I backed the old Toyota up in the ditch and tailgated on him. They ran him about a hundred yards and lost him. Never really got back under him all night. Had me scratching my head. A few nights later did same thing on a grey fox. Same result. A few years later I'm married and me and paw n law are headed to run. I got 8 or so dogs and he's behind me in his truck with at least 15 head. Top over a hill to where we are going to cast and there goes a red across the road. I get excited and want to tailgate on him but ol paw n law says just hold on son you never dump on a fox like that they will never run him. So we drive up the road wait about 15 mins then come back down and put one dog on him. Let that one get to going good and we just sent dogs to the race 2 at a time. Within 30 mins we have 20 plus walkers driving mr red fox. Learned something that night about just tailgating a bunch of dogs on freshly seen game.

Yeah I've left the woods wondering what happened a many a time. But like daddy said. It's those sorry nights of running that make those good nights so good.

this past Thursday night here was good didn't think was going to be rained 3 or 4 times on me that night, jumped a bobcat and after almost 4 hrs they put teeth to him, went back last night and figured it was going to be a good 1 first clear night we had in a long time, stars everywhere, moon out real bright, struck 3 different cat couldn't jump 2 of them lots of water branches are all full and running, moved on , found the third on got him jumped and he ran off ina deep pond full of water, finally figured him out got back on him, ran maybe 30 min went in another branch full of water, that's why they call it hunting and not catching
