The second week was our best. Things got real tough the last week. Killed one Friday but didn't kill the last one we treed.

Great pictures and great looking dogs. I know you probably get tired of answering this question every year, but I would love to see how those dogs are bred. I could probably find the answer in the archives, but maybe there are others that would like to see it too.

Does any one of the dogs stand out above the others. Which is your favorite? If you were going to get another pup right now, what would you get?

The two white dogs are just local breeding. The one in the top picture is my original dog that we started running on cats. She has always been a good, solid dog. She has treed quite a few over the years. Always knew that she was doing what she was supposed to, very few faults except she just didn't have the speed to continuously catch cats. She is getting up in age now and can't keep up with the others. The other one is my brothers male. He is a heck of a squirrel dog that can run a cat. Not a cold trailer but will run hot till things get real tough.

The other two dogs in the top picture are mother and daughter. Mother on the right. The mother has become the best dog I have. She has the speed, intensity, and heart to tree cats regularly. She figured something out last year and starting putting an end to the cats that wanted to circle in thick cover. Plenty of tree and locate. Don't care for her feet or her size but she has more heart than any dog I have ever hunted with. Her pup is doing well, this was her first year. Seems to have the speed and heart but didn't get a whole lot of work. She will take a cold track by herself and get it up though, was real happy with what I seen. Her is the mothers ped.



My male isn't in any of these pics. He is the father of the pup. Always had a great nose. Cold trails well runs track well. Lacks tree power. Got lyme disease now and has no endurance. I run him some but not a lot. His ped.



The plotts are my dads dogs. Don't know a lot about the breeding. One is pocahotas bred and is a decent dog, but can't get it done alone. The better one I believe is redwood or something like that. She does a nice job, just not my cup of tea.

As far as what I would get I can't really say. Always think I want something better. I am partial to curs, if not for any other reason than to be different and succeed with something most folks laugh at. I really like my little female but with her breeding I would not have ever expected what I got. Maybe I got lucky. Didn't really buy her for cat hunting. I did buy my male for that but he isn't quite what I was hoping for. The pup maybe it. A little squirrel dog intensity and some old style size and nose. We will see in the future I guess. I never really looked for big game breeding the first and second dogs were just squirrel dogs. The male fell into my lap so I thought I would try him. Thought of trying a stryker dog but to far to travel. Also with such a short season I don't know if it is worth getting a dog just for cats. I still squirrel and coon hunt more than anything.

Oh and I never get tired of talking about dogs. LOL

Do you have any kind of a training season on cat ? Hard not to like them Mt.cur not many dogs can answer the call to perform all the different jobs like they do, Its like having 3 or 4 dogs wrapped up into one.

We can pretty much run whenever. Not really any closed season for training. Unfortunately I live about 2 hrs from any significant population of cats so to go run out of season is tough. We do try to make it out a few times a year though.

Wow, thank you for the pedigrees, that is awsome. I know some of the dogs and even hunted with one of them (Coldwaters Bubba, owned by Larry Albright, Greene Iowa) and some of his offspring. What a blast! thanks also for explaining your dogs. I cant get enough of that stuff. Great thread.
