You put in for a draw in November I believe and they give out about 70 permits.

It's just a drawing, put in November they draw the beginning of December. It is not a point system. And if there is any left over they sell on a first come first serve in the middle of December. They only give out 70 state wide but some zones are unlimited I believe but then you are stuck to that specific zone.

So what are your chances if you apply for a statewide permit? How much of a lottery is it? I see people on here from Oregon & Washington talking about hunting bear etc and I can only assume they are hunting in Idaho. I live in Eastern Oregon and would potentially like to run dogs in Idaho. What are the odds of my getting a non-resident hound hunting permit?

I'm not sure but I bet if you called ID Fish and Game they would tell you how many people usually put in.

My buddies hunt Idaho every year for bear and lion and they draw a hound handlers permit about every other year lately but it used to be about every third year. If you get a hound handlers permit you might as well get a lion harvest tag cause their just an over the counter tag, plus I'm pretty sure that by just buying your hunting license you can harvest three bobs.

I have drawn idaho last 2 years it costs me $714.00 to chase lion and bear even if u don't plan on killing a lion or bear u still have to have a valid kill tag for that species u are chasing
