Drive around the neighborhood. Locate a dog box. Find what him and his buddies run and make a educated decision. Don't go and buy one for about two years until you can understand the game.

I have been researching fir about a year it took me two years to buy my pointers. So I'm not jumping in just getting opinions and base some of research off that.

I agree with Unreal_tk, if the guys you are going to hunt with all have the same kind of dog (hot nosed, cold nosed, competition dog, whatever) a good place to start would be to get a similar type dog. I have a close friend who has some competition walkers, and I ended up getting into a more cold nosed line of blueticks... we each enjoy our own hounds and they are great for their own use, but when we go out together its a bit of a 'dogs breakfast' for lack of a better term. Mine will run a scent miles until they hit the tree, and his tear through the bush until they find a hot track and put it up quick. But at the end of the day it makes for some interesting and fun nights.
