Trapping on Public or Crown Land

Post by Sask_matty »

So basically had a close call on the weekend. Cut the dogs loose on some public wildlife land on a lynx track. Unfortunately in the 3 foot deep snow the cat got away. Returned to the truck to find a note on the wind-shield stating there were power ram snares set in the area.

Question is, how does everyone else deal with avoiding traps or trappers in your area? When I start asking trappers in my area (trying to avoid their sets) everyone gets really defensive about me cutting in on their territory. I am not sure what the big deal is, I just want to avoid having a dog get caught in a trap.

Is it too much to ask for everyone to just cooperate a bit and everyone can have some fun?

Hi Matt, everyone who runs a dog needs to worry about getting them caught by traps or snares. We have been running around trappers all winter and worried. It seems like a bad luck lottery. As the snares become more efficient the risk increases and the likelihood of getting to the dog in time decreases. Guess I'd rather run around the snares than the wolves, glad we don't have the wolves yet.
