Yes I've owned dogs that wouldn't run by themselves. But I didn't own them long. If my running dogs can't run something by themselves by ten months old or so they will be culled quickly. Some dogs just don't run by them selves or can't. Either way I don't feed one that won't or can't.

Coyotes are pretty easy game to run in that they stink pretty good. I would find a hot coyote track or see one dump her on it. If she doesn't leave there running I would follow my advice on culling. You can feed a good one for the same feed a sorry one will eat.

i get what youre saying i have no intentions on feeding a house pet, already have a lab for that. just wanna make sure i give her a chance before i do cull her. have hunted with hounds for quite a few years but its my first as i have the property for it now and just dont want her not runnin to be my doin kinda thing

It may be she was never fooled with as a pup and is just scared to go alone but at 3 years old instinct in a running dog like a trig or running walker should take over and she shouldn't care if its just her or 20 running it she should go.

Sounds like the dog doesn't have a clue yet to what you want to get done, not the dogs fault.
If its the dogs first time doing this yeah they will run back to you for security, just the way some dogs are, and don't make them bad..

When I first started running coyotes I had similar issues as I didn't have other dogs for mine to run and learn from, what I did was just hunt behind the dog similar to pheasant or rabbit hunting and try to walk a track, fresher the better, keep in mind weather conditions can affect how well a dog can pick up scent, not always going to run a track depending on its smelling ability.. Another thing I did was shoot a few coyotes, think it was around four. Leave coyotes lay and then walk dog to back side of coyote and let it pick up track and go find it. Dog should follow up and once there encourage it to give it a good wooling, in my case it didn't take long and now my hound is one of my best jump dogs.... Don't forget a lot of praise when dog does well.. good luck..
