Re: Oklahoma Bobcat Rendezvous
Gentlemen,
Adding to Don's message, If you want to hunt before or after the gathering, I will attempt to take you or show you some areas that I hunt or have hunted where you can attempt to run Mr. Bob in our area. We road hunt most of the time due to access to driveable roads and are able to get within hearing distance of our hounds.
Highly recommend Garmin with Birdseye updated! There are no maps I know of that will provide roads or trails that you will need. Load maps that include Hwy 259 North to I-40 & South to the Red River: Then East to the Arkansas line & West to Hwy 75/69(Indian Nation Turnpike).
And, that area will consist of more like 600,000 acres of public hunting/fishing country!
If your hunting with your hounds you can expect the normal amount of off game---hogs, bear, deer, coon, coyote, fox, etc.---plus some snakes this time of year! Carry some Benydral & antibotics with you for your hounds if they get bitten. The Benydral, you can buy at Walmart and I just put two tablets down their throat ASAP---that keeps swelling down plus soothes them. I also use Rydal and put that down their throat.
Just had two bitten by big rattler in South Texas---both are alive and are just healing from what rotted out where bites were located on their bodies.
Don S. is planning on coming in 7-10 days early and were going to crappie fish and cat hunt, so he will have some idea of area to hunt and will help.
Any one else that wants to come early, please do so, as all that week we will be hunting and fishing.

PS: I have asked them but Hootie S., Marion G., James S., Drew H., Curtis N., Alvin G., Billy B., Ceb S., Jimmy E., are just a few that know this area & have hunted all over it for the most part. If you know any of them, and are going to be in for the gathering, call and see if they will take you on a hunt?
I am also receiving calls asking if there will be any hounds available? I don't know! Bet there will be & that is reason we chose to call it the "Rendezvous"---look that up! Plan to have lots of tales, meeting and greeting, see number of hounds, etc. with lots of good people that enjoy bobcat hounds and the races they produce.

Mr. Clyde,
You will be in Mr. Jack Frank's backyard....he has sold more Cat Dogs than anyone that I know of; so I bet between he and you, finding a Hound for sale will not be a problem!

There are three of us that hunt some parts of the area maybe year around. And then I can think of another 10-12 hunters that hunt other areas maybe not as much do to their working schedules. However, they live closer and do weekend hunts. And I am refering to only bobcat hunters here. There are coon hunters and hog hunters that tell me they hunt here, but in a year worth of hunting, I may meet 2-3 times while hunting.
I, for instance, will leave next Tuesday and hunt all week in that area. Camping out in travel trailer & likely by my self. I have some young hounds that really need the work! The Good Lord and My Wife permitting---they are going to get that exposure.
If you have hunted there you likely know that area consists of over 500,000 acres of public hunting. So, it is seldom that we even come in contact with each other unless we plan to hunt same area.
Not sure where your headed with this question, but other issues i will mention: 1) No one will hurt the bobcat population in Eastern Oklahoma!; 2) Until you spend the time to learn the country, expect to be confused as to how to get to your hounds when running or treed;(Have had two hunting friends come there and hunt and telling me that he never gets lost---Yeah right! Left him on his own and found him 3 hours later driving roads trying to figure how to get to the highway); 3) Suggest the Garmin with Birdseye--that was a real assist to most of Hunters that we all agree upon.
And finally, a pack of cat hounds in good running condition will normall last 3-5 good races here. Then they are going to need some rest time! We all will have individuals that can & will go hunt when they smell a cat track, but rest of pack will be knocked out with torn pads, toes knocked off, etc..
There is always some trapping for bobcats in that area(it seems to me, and trapping season is over now)but, fur is not as valuable as areas further North & West. The Trappers are like us Houndmen----we do not hurt the bobcat population!
Call or email me anytime,
Clyde

Re: Oklahoma Bobcat Rendezvous
Update on the Rendezvous. A Seminar ( How to operate the app's/assessories on the Garmin Alpha ) will be Saturday afternoon along with the other activities.
Bring your trading stuff. There will be a few vendors with hound related materials.
It's looking like around 50 or so houndmen will be in attendance.
More info later as the dates get closer.

I'm not a cat hunter but will be in attendance and will be honored to help guide a cast of hounds and houndsmen. I'm VERY familiar with the area and know the particular areas that tend to hold the highest cat populations.
Also for those not familiar with this area it is some AWSOME hunting. The road access is unbelievable and your hounds will likely never tree or bay-up more than a few hundred yards from some sort of road. Mr. Clyde is telling the truth about the road system getting confusing and its likely no one will figure them out in one weekend but the cat numbers are high and the country is beautiful, look forward to meeting a few houndsmen!!!
