Why Running and Running dog X are the best cat dogs

Al, this is a serious question and not meant to sound like im poking fun. Out of curiosity what running x dogs have you run down there and how many years ago? The reason i ask is because in my opinion with my own experience with the ones i own and hunt they have come a long ways in the last 10 years. Mostly in the trailing,locate/tree end of things.

Mark, first running dog & running crosses I hunted with a bunch were about 50 year ago. What running blood was in those am not sure, they sure were game catchers. I owned a small, short eared, registered female, bred by a bear hunter, Mack Napier. That female was not the track driver those running crosses were, but we discovered there were more than a few times her nose sure shined. Have, hunted with others off and on but believe those old hounds were superior.
Those two females I spoke of were probably close to twenty years ago. At the same time I hunted with several others from that line, some male, some female, most of those did drive a track, but saw times when the tree stock shined & out did them. The biggest hole in most of those was light locate & tree. They were nice dogs and like all I have ever hunted with had room for improvement. I saw them do some good work & saw them have cats make them look bad. And next time out catch a couple with style. They were hunted with some tree hounds. Was told that running blood came from Kentucky , the original trigg breeder.
My disagreement has never been Running crosses have not produced good hounds, but I cannot agree that they are superior to all other breeds. There are good hounds in all breeds, lots of hounds never get the proper exposure. Including any I will own in the future. It is impossible for me to believe all cats are caught as easy as some say, until I have seen it over a long stretch.
For the record my best season , and that was not in 90 days, is 47 treed cats, That I saw in a tree, or a few ground catches, most were left to run again.. not harvested cats. And if I don/t see the cat it is not a catch. I hunted with a couple different friends that season & without them sharing there hunting ground, would not have had that good of a season. I have heard from good source some others, whom I know are very honest have treed between 60 & seventy a few times. & that i don/t think was in 90 days. I have never been a master cat hunter and certainly am not one now. I do appreciate who ever voted me as such, but have a feeling a couple of them are more cat hunter than i ever was. Al

The doubters have to be scratching their head wondering how these running dog's that don't locate and tree and dont run a track any different keep producing high numbers of cats year after year after year

Tim, have seen some really nice running cross dogs out on the west coast so no doubt they can get it done but one has to remember you need a great cat population to put up huge numbers. Alot of states dont have this convenience. Andy

Tim, i am inviting you to bring your best down next training season and show me how they are going to pick up there heads and run tracks like they are jumped, these sorry dogs of mine are struggling with. Al, I'll come down on my own fuel,thanks for the offer though. Should have Suzies pups weaned and her started back into shape hopefully. Why don't you get a real cat pack like Dewey, Tom, or Mark to come down and demo for ya? They all catch more than I and in style!!! This being my point, have seen it done,know its possible, the very reason I want some blood from each of them. Have one from Dewey [Bozo] I'm happy with, sold Dart to Jc, Sean bought my Minnie dog. Have sized down to move, make room to keep some pups, if she took?
