NorCal Public Land?

Post by mebarnum »

Anybody have recommendations for coons on public land in NorCal? Im looking to get my young plott on something soon. He's done really well with scent drags, now I'd like to get him practicing on something live…thanks

Get the fish and game waterfowl reg book, all sporting good shops have them for free. Look at the public land section it is divided into regions. There are a few type a and b areas that open up to coon hunting after duck season. Like the grasslands and mendota.

It's been 20yrs or more since I coon hunted , But use to tree a lot of coon in the wildlife area along I-5 and Hwy 12. You can run it all year long till the foxtails get to bad and I'd run more then one dog a lot of water and them big delta coon will take one dog under quick. Be ready to get wet, I do remember wading and swimming a lot to get to the dogs.
