Re: Hunting off atvs
I picked up a second used rear rack on eBay so I could weld on it and still have the original. I put the plywood on the sides because the pups wanted to lay down and crawl through the rails. I left it that way so I have somewhat of a back rest. Its just scabbed together with scrap metal and 3/4 plywood as a floor. That is a Honda 300 4wheeler so its pretty small as I had to keep the pad forward for weight distribution. Luckily I'm not tall so it works out alright. I hunt off of it as much as I can to save fuel, and most of the land around here is gated so a wheeler is necessary. I've also used a trailer, works good but slows ya down when you have to turn around. A 450 should be able to handle 5 or 6 dogs. If you start hunting off a wheeler get the handle bar mount for the Garmin.

I took off the stock racks off and welded up new frames. 1 dog on the front and 2-3 on the back. In front of the dog in front is a place for a small ice chest and a basket for what ever.

You can't see in the picture but the back rail is open behind the seat the dog get in and exit that way. So far works great. I do put my lightest dog up front.

Here in CO. we use enclosed boxes because of the cold. Two dogs per box. My current setup is two yamaha grizzly 700 with power steering. We have to use the larger quads due to the high elevation. We loose about 20% of our horsepower so when we're running tracks, the larger cc's are a must. The power steering is awful nice when running tracks also.

Re: Hunting off atvs
i hunted almost exclusively off a honda rancher 350 then honda 300 for a long time.
since have ran polaris midsize rangers. had 500 and now have 800. like the smaller midsize over xp 800 and 900. midsize handles 6 dogs easy.

winter time box on polaris.

first ranger with box.

new and improved box when freshly built (looks like hell now), awesome for rigging. multiple dogs will keep warm.
