ATV tracks

What is the opinion on ATV tracks to all the other cat hunters out there? A buddy of mine says that you forget how much they cost after you have them for 5 minutes in the snow. I have heard mixed opinions on them.

i had a Honda with kimpex tracks for cat hunting it would pull a house and go anywhere never got it stuck ever the only thing i did not like about it was i could not hall enough gas to go very far it would suck up ten gallons like sponge i am sure the problem was the size of the sprocket although it had all kinds of power/torque the ground speed was 20mph max my cousin had a different type i do not remember the brand the sprockets where about the size of the tires and he got a lot better mph with them and better gas mileage but he did not have the clearance i had but his brand steered easier i ended up selling mine and went back to sleds that's all i can say i did like them but those are the reasons i got rid of it good luck if possible try before you buy maybe mine would have been better on gas with a bigger machine. I have cattracks on a Kaw 650 Brute Force and my buddy runs commanders on his quad. Larry pretty much summed it up. They will take you anywhere but not very fast. I use them to check smaller properties, 1k-2k acres so they work great for what I do. You couldn't take them out at 6am and run them all day unless you carried more gas. But when you get snow drifts that crust over, that is the end of the road for a quad on tires. The tracks dont' even slow down. I have two sleds but hate using them for cat hunting. I am leaning toward getting the tatou 4s so I can run from snow to dry ground. The problem is on top there will be 3 ft of snow but in the bottom of the drainage there won't be any. So I need something a little more versatile than a snowmobile. I also have been looking into light foot tracks also they are a little more money but have an intagrated track suspension and a larger wider track option.

If you have a dog that can run an ATV track pretty good it will probably make a good field trial dog.

Polaris has new tracks system out so i was told. They retail for around $3500 a set and even the 500cc machine has plenty of power to turn them. I have heard stories of people using the track system 4 wheelers to go in and rescue snowmobiles that are broke down. I know they throw allot of snow back on the rider but id say thats a small price to pay for being able to go across rocky wind blown ridges and go through 4 ft drifts with no worries. Sounds like the ultimate hound hunting machine. Now if it would only float lol ....dgarrrett

I have a set on my 800 polaris and I love them.. There a life saver!! They go really good in any type of snow! I have had mine in four to five feet of snow and have not been stuck yet.. The only down fall is the gas milage and turning the thing. It is really hard to stear and the gas milage sucks but other than that there worth there way in GOLD

One other thing, if the snow is light and fluffy, I wear some rain pants because they do throw a ton of snow around and you end up wet if you don't have on rain pants.

For those that are using tracks how much wider does they make your atv/utv as looking to put some on and wondering about trailer size?
