Post by sdakotatough »

I am wanting to build a dog box on skis to pull behind my snowmobile. Just looking for ideas and pics.

I've tried posting photos on here. Doesn't work for me. My pup sled has a solid frame from snowmobile to the ski. it pivots at the ski. then I put a limit strap on the front of ski to the frame. I put a snow deflecter (plastic bedliner) to keep snow off. I use an airline box and strap it to it. The type that has a pivot in front don't work well (just my experience). I also made the connection at the snowmobile with a pipe on the pupsled and ran a rod through it, a valve spring on the back (for shock) and the connecter on the front. Works good if you have to sidehill. Pupsled skis say on the snow. So far it hasn't rolled over. If you want to send a text number I could send photos. You could build a box on it but works great with 2 dogs. Also I built a small frame to hold the crate in with, I have a survival pack on it and strap my snowshoes to it as well. Hope this helps.

This is me pulling my buddy's sled. I don't really like this sled as it is to high and the suspension is not stiff enough (it sways to much). The box has a ventilation slot on the opposite side. The plywood box is designed to fit 2 matching boxes side by side in a pickup bed, that fit between the wheels wells.

My sled is a plywood platform on top of 2 snowmobile skis. On top of that I strap on a box for the dogs plus a smaller narrower box for other essentials such as chain saw etc. My sled has no clearance so in powder you end pulling a lot of snow which can cause problems. If I were you I would try to have at least some clearance so you don't have snow plowing issues.
