Post by w mcneal »

I would like to know if anyone has registered (ukc, akc, nkc, etc) dogs that the owner feels are worth bragging about. If you own one or know of one please tell use about them. tx

as for bragging on a hound I will never do that , cause as I have found out over many years of hunting with hounds brag on one and you will be made a liar real quick !! every hound I hunt is a registered hound, I do not use tree dogs running dogs only, and I am very selective with what I use, I have had and bred the same hounds for many years, these I hunt are walker hounds chase, and horn registered dogs going back 5 generations , there are a lot of registered dogs in the world but I believe there is a certain group that will fit every persons needs, these I have are bred for nose, and fox sense, I do not sell dogs , or pups for making a living, I sell them when I don't need them anymore with that being for age, or they just don't suit me anymore, I am a hunter I hunt 3 to 4 nights a week and I hunt right now 8 hounds that are broke hounds, I run only grey fox, and bobcat with the same dogs, they are not free cast hounds, road hunted only, I breed about 2 bitches a year, so I always have pups coming , as I said all my hounds are registered hounds that can get after a piece of game , all my hounds are line bred hounds so I basically know what im going to get when I breed , everything I own is kin, I will not buy a dog I make them

My instincts tell me if you are looking for running dogs, you would be hard pressed to find any better than those bred by Southern Fox. Good luck. Al

Southern fox: I love to hear that a guy has been raising and hunting the same family of dogs as long as you have. It tells me that he likes what he has.

Can you tell us more about your dogs. Are they hot or cold nosed, and do they tree. What age do you start hunting them, and what is the average size of your dogs. tx Bill

I would say the average male maybe 24 inches tall , some more, some less gyps being a little smaller, most are tri colored, but some of the last bunch I raise came out blk and tan with white points, they wont tree, usually hunt the truck if the critter climbs, but have a few that will stay in and try to wait till it climbs back down, sometimes this is aggrevating cause we can be moving on looking for something else, usually hunt all females, don't usually keep a male , most wont run in a thicket like a female will, running dog that is don't know what a tree dog will do, where I live is flat ground, if theres a hill a dump truck made it, lots of cypress swamps, and ty ty bays that's really thick , seen them so thick one either has to crawl in, or get on top of it caught a cat before you could see the fight from above, seen one guy take his belt off and got it around the cats neck and chocked him down , put him in the dog box, and all the dogs rode in the cab with him, just to show his wife what he was doing, she thought he was running the roads looking for another woman, he showed her haha, dogs are dogs nothing special , I hunt a lot , that's what it takes to make a dog he wont make sitting up, a dog is like a piano if its not being used it will go out of tune, as for pups I will not start a pup till he is 10 months old, I fell like his bones and joints are ok then and there will be no excuses after a few times to the woods, I don't worry about starting a pup so soon , cause when he don't know anything he is just a pup, but everytime he goes he is learning what it takes to be a dog, so when I start one he goes everytime I go, I have been to the woods with 12 pups and 10 running dogs, all that mob gets out its a mess .

Every time I ever bragged on one something bad happens, they run a rabbit, catch a coon or skunk or get run over on a highway! Learned a long time ago not to brag on a dog. Even saw a 9 yr. old dog of a friends that had never ran a deer in his life cross the road on one leading a pack of 10 or 12! I would have bet and lost money on that dog that day guaranteed!
