Are you getting any scratch or beep at all on any of the collar frequencies? I know some scanners need a bfo module or something like that to produce the beep sounds instead or the chhhhk sound like someone keying their mic.

I had to follow the instructions to program an old man I know that rabbit hunts, u may can google and find instructions, he doesn't have it anymore for me to send instr. he left it on top of dogbox and drove off. I remember best I can, may help.
1. Press V/M. Button until u see VFO
2. Press Mode button until u see LSB
3. Now enter collar frequency
I think that's what worked on his.

This may sound ridiculous but I was helping a fellow with his Icom that didn't seem to be working at all and I was getting frustrated and then I thought about the squelch. It was turned up way too far and was causing all the problem, hope yours turns out to be this simple. Just an idea. Nothing to loose.!

Folks I believe I have narrowed it down to the antenna. After following all the steps I still got nothing. What is a good yagi that you guys can recommend that will pick up as many main freqs currently have 217 collars but would like to be able to pick up 216-221

Oregon,
I used 217 collars and had a 217 Yagi, just the regular fold out that did fine. Any Yagi you get will have "217" for example stamped on it, but this is the frequency it was tuned for and doesn't mean it won't pick up others, just not as good but you may not even notice it. One hunter in our group had a 151 antenna (I think that is what it was) but it was a much larger antenna with way wider arms on it that my Icom wouldn't pick up but neither would the Blue Boxes. Hope this helps and you get your rig working good. You should be able to get a Yagi antenna dirt cheap now.

Curt I cannot get it to enter a 4th number after the decimal It only wants to enter 3 and then it just starts the whole frequency over if that make sense. what mode are you guys using using. I've tried CW and LSB. Which is what folks have recommended. Thanks guys

OregonHunter,
Just went and checked mine and it is set on CW. Like what was said before, you need to enter four decimals after the 217 or whatever. 217.3750 and also make sure you have the tuning set so it raises the last decimal by one each time you use the adjustment knob to fine tune, 217.3750, 217.3751, 317.3752 etc.

Well turns out it was te antenna. Got a quick shot from quick track. Hooked it up and it is working. But I'm only able to get 3 digits in after the decimal. I'm getting signal. And it's somewhat pointing me in the right direction. Meter stays the same for about 180 degrees. :? I feel it is because I can't get that 4th digit in. After abound 500 yards tho it loses all signal. Anyone got any thoughts on this. Please chime in. Thanks guys

Btw I've ruled out the radio. I took it to the local shop and he said all functions are working fine.

Got it figured out. Got on a radio forum and asked the same thing. Turns out I ha my gain turned as low as it would go. Turned it to max and BAM I got signal. Took it out to 2 1/2 miles. Was very very faint but it worked. Can anyone of you icom guys recommend a booster I can hook up to increase signal strength. Thanks guys
