My 11 yearolds hog of a blackbear

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

ImageMY sons first Black bear 120 yards with a 222rem. He thinks he wants a bigger one this year, I haven't told him how difficult that could be. This was a real bruiser.

hey nice bear. whats up with you canadians and the 222?if you get into running the hog bears there i wouldn't worry about the dogs as much as the gun. i would concider a different caliber gun. big bear big gun. i was hunting with your neighbor the other guide had my dogs we saw 18 bears that day treed a small bear off hwy 20 let it go . from there we drove to tatlayoko lk. just before dark we spotted a large bruin grazing in skinner meadow . i was driving the guides truck so he could size up the bear after a few minutes he decided to take that bear with a 222!!!!i shook my head . told eli to have at it but if he didn't clean kill it i was not cutting a dog loose on a bear shot with a 222.at almost dark ! what a wreck that was. anyhow hopefully he learnd a valuable lesson from that. later that summer he was haying on the 6 mile ranch in anahim lk. and shot a grizzlie with a 30-30 .i tried to convince this young man to gun up a little . evidently its a canadian thing !!! get a chance exercise some of those canadian lynx you have there probably the largest population anywhere in the world right in your backyard. good luck with your hunting !!!

No Spanky. I got him in the Chilcotin. Which is south central BC. But it is a good bear in any part of BC.

Kids in BC have to be 10 to hunt. They can write the test and have their own lisence and tags or hunt using a jr lisence which allows the to use any adults tags.

Easy there Mike Martell, all of us Canadians don't shoot bears with .222's, heck I don't even own one ;)
