Young missionary from our church was giving a report of his mission this past sunday,said they ate dinner with an elderly lady one evening.Her cat had been annoying him all evening rubbing against him shedding etc. as she went in kitchen to get some dessert he gave it a little index finger flick to the nose so it would leave him alone, said it fell over dead never even twitched.They stuck it under her couch where she found it the next morning.Again sorry to hijack your thread,thought it was a hilarious story.Would like to have seen the look on his face when it killed over!

Interesting forum, and seems everyone else chasing Mr. Bob has some of the same questions.

40 to 50% of cats that we run here in Oklahoma that are caught on ground, with number of these catches under trees. Number of times they will be caught in a creek or pond? Posted photo with story of hunt a few days back where cat was caught in creek.

No they have not been hunted with hounds likely at all!

However, there are a lot of coyotes in area and have had them face bark my hounds in a cat race. But it is in our breeding season here for both bobcats and coyotes.

We are striking one or two cats in same area, same night, just after we catch or tree one bobcat. We will load dogs and travel 1/2 to 1 mile, dump out, and in 100-200 yards have another cat running or a least cold trailing one. This time of year that is not unusual in good cat country.

One of my prime areas have a number of bear hunters/hog hunters, but few or no bobcat hunters. And, everytime I meet one in that area, they are amazed that 1) were hunting bobcats, & 2) that we were catching/treeing bobcats. Gentleman advised just this week there that he had lived all his life there and felt that catching one on ground was unheard of? Showed him one on the dog box that was caught that AM, & he could not believe it.

Thanks Clyde, would guess coyotes out # cats maybe 7 to 1 in most areas I hunted. Never had given any thought to that having an effect on how hard cats run. Also can recall very few cats caught on ground after a short race, only recall it twice in 48 years hound hunting. I really believe some cats born with that gene that makes them not tree. Maybe I/m way off, but most cats that tree easy here probley don/t survive to mature & raise many young. I am speaking of the areas that have vehicle access and open to the public. Most of those areas are hunted nights by some & others often hunt the same ares in the mornings and some hunt all day. In the sixties & early seventies there was a much healthier cat population in this area. Some of the cat decline I/m sure was caused by changes in timber management. Most all the brush in the large clear cuts are now elimated with herbicides making for less desirable cat habitat. ALso mountain boomers are poisoned & trapped so less feed. Can/t blame the timber company they are in the business of growing trees. I recall when I hunted most every weekend year around & lots of the time could tree ( or a least run one around) and be home before noon & work around the place. Those were good times. That's weird that u bring that up. This year we have caught more cats on the ground then I can ever remember.I would like to see the dogs tree the bastered but if they can catch him on the ground good for them. Does catching them on the ground have anything to do with the breed of dogs u have?

I hate that this is the only thing I'm going to add to this conversation...
BUT, when we were fighting SB1221 here in California, just a year or two ago, we just about had it beat until the day the AR's showed photos of dogs killing a cat on the ground.
Not to mention the video of dogs pulling a wounded tiny ass bear around on the ground.
To say the whole series of events pissed me the **** off would be an understatement.
I would ask that you all keep that kind of stuff in mind when you choose what to talk or not talk about on the internet and what you should or shouldn't be posting photos or videos of.
I realize this might be hard to understand if you are from a state that hasn't fought it yet or you (naively) believe you live in a state where it could never happen BUT believe me, times have changed and sooner or later it will.
That is all...you all can be mad at me if you want, doesn't hurt my feelings because you could probably never be any more angry than I was watching those photos being handed out.

Country and conditions play a role in how fast a dog can run a track but the garmin will give you all those results if you just push new hunt when they start a track it will give u there speed and distance traveled. That will tell u if your dog can run a bob. Start new hunt say when there jumped see how fast he is tell he is treed.

I'm with you Liz, It amazes me(and I'm a moron) some of the stuff people will put on the WORLD WIDE WEB. They are just adding fuel to the fire and not smart enough to know or care.

liz I think your right on, out of sight means out of mind , I love to hunt as much or more than everyone else, and I know what showing everyone what you do can do to what you like to do , 9 out of 10 will hate what you do and they will condem you and try to stop you and will stop you cause they have all the bleeding hearts on there side with all the money, they hate us all and will do whatever to stop us from doing what we love, the antis are here and I bet they look at what we write and say ~!!!!!
