need some advice chasen coyotes
im new to chasen coyotes, always coon hunted, did some bear and bobcat to. I had 3 chases on coyotes last week, been training some young dogs last winter, I have a older bluetick she use to be a bear dog, she is very fast, she wont stay or tree on a bear after they tree other dogs do. so I been dumping her on yotes last winter and this winter, im in wv, so its mostly wooded lot of timber cuts, lots of thickets, hardly any flat ground. so the coyotes I been turning on, seem to be circling 3 or 4 times, about 300 or 400 circles then straight line, I had a flat tire the last chase prob would got in there and got that one, so so is it common for the yotes to circle real good like that at first ? these coyotes are never dogged around her no one into it. just been me and my dogs that's all, I know it will be hard to gettem like that. ill have little more luck when I get my hounds in better running shape, I know I had a blast chasen them. and im sure once I kill a few some my buddys will get more into it. not much more to hunt in jan and feb, thanks guys for any advice you can give me.

Blues will never chase it as fast as running wakers. I know I have them. It's a differant style hunt. With the walkers you have to race out two miles n front of the tote. With the blues you get them while there circling. That simple

Pretty common around here for yotes to make a circle or two after being jumped out of their bed just to find out what the he!! is chasin them. Also depends on if it's the young of the year or an older/experienced yote. Males like to straight line out, females tend to circle more.

If you are by yourself a slow dog is best , they generaly don't head out of Dodge. Fast dogs you need a jet mobile to get ahead of them. I like black and tan cross and now have 3 11/2 year old plot crossed with my big bluetick that last year run beyond my expectations. We got one this fall and chased another but then the snow went and now we have ice but cant wait to get out again. Actually saw cat tracks last year and hope to come across them again this year. They are rare here , would love to run one and shoot it with a camera, now I have the itch to get on a cat chase, not to kill but just to see what they will do.

How did u start training ur hounds. Do u hunt with a group or by urself. Me and a buddy have been looking for someone to tag along with and just see how it all works. I've read a lot about it and hear guys saying they run them for 20 plus miles. Just don't figure it would be a foot race like that here. How long have some of ur chases went. If u would be interested in having some company on some of ur hunts here is my # 304-517-6296 and if not I totally understand but any advice u can throw my way would be great (fast or slow hounds - how much area it takes to hunt most chases) just a few thoughts I'm having thanks

Rough terrain usually don't mean much to a coyote! If you put enough heat on him or he decides he wants to go he will go for miles.. Not sure if that's what you meant by a footrace but don't think that if you hunt in rough terrain that they won't take off on Ya!

Ok thanks so a good bit of land will be required regardless of terrain

Each chase is different but yes you will definitely want access to a good bit of property

how do you all train your dogs to coyote hunt. just wanted to get into it.
Re: need some advice chasen coyotes
I just kept takeing them out after a fresh snow putting them on a track, if no snow I tried getting the yotes to howl then walk the dogs in there , keep trying over and over
