just got home from running tday! got sick of sittin around thinkin about hunting and let the dogs go thismorning got a few inches of fresh snow last night on the crusty crap we had. was a good day. had 2 races going at the same time got one of them shot and the other got away. then let them go again just before lunch on a sneaker i had seen, ran that one for a couple hours but it gave us the slip as well.

and as for the dogs didnt tear them up hardly at all, no different than any other day runnin for foot damage

Looks like we are finally going to get some snow. Young dogs have been doing great considering the ice, got two Saturday and one today. Today had to be the toughest on the dogs just couldnt follow it in the fields, too much ice but they came through on it Cant wait to get some good conditions for a change

Do you guys run bear in the spring/fall too? I'm moving back to Ontario this spring and am really looking forward to giving bears a try. Probably going to be in the North Bay area.

Cool. I think most guys just bait them and hunt from a treestand. I figure if if it gives me an excuse to get out with the dogs, I might as well give it a try.

We got fresh snow yesterday but real windy and cold. Two fresh tracks this morning and the dogs hardly said boo. Found another they started and eventually went to the right guy that could shoot. Just a small one but even it didn't seem to leave much scent.
We do have some guys around here that run bear with hounds. First time I went I couldn't believe they could run that far or stay ahead of the dogs for hours.
Last year we had a cat track, would love to see if my young dogs would take it I just want to see it.
Any of you lion hunters, I would love to know how they act on a chase, how far they might go. Hopefully some day I will get a chance to go on a real chase.

This is one of the worst winters for running hounds we've had in a long time. We've got 8 yotes and a fox so far. We hunted some big country around griffith calabogie area to get away from the crust in the feilds.

I remember 3 or 4 years ago we had good snow early and then got crust and no snow for about 6 weeks , it was brutal Hopefully this snow will stick for a while but the dogs are so sore from a good days run they don't want to come out for 3 days and these are year olds. Hopefully we can get them in shape soon. Going to try tomorrow just wish it would warm up a little. That cold and wind doesn't leave much scent
