To me a "finished hound" is a hound that can start trail catch or tree it's own game consistently. With out paying any attention to off game.

A finished hound is one to old to hunt anymore. Anything other than that in the wrong hands, hunted with a trash pack can be running trash soon. I have owned a lot of dogs that I catch game with that haven't run trash for years but a hound is always a work in process. Dewey

X2. I've yet to see a "perfect" dog.
If they don't bay, they don't stay

Catch em and stretch em, tree em and free em

My definition of a finished hound is one that is usually middle aged and is going to be what it is going to be......meaning, it is done growing and developing but usually can get the job done truck to tree a high percentage of the time. To me, it does not mean it is trash broke or perfect.

A lot of us on this forum are "finished"........we are set in our ways (like how we do things or what we like)........some good, some bad but that's the way we are and aren't gonna change.

The question was what is a finished dog not what is a perfect dog. No dog is perfect we all know that. A finished dog is one you can take out and not have trash issues it will strike and start its own track and tree its own game anything other than this it is not finished it would be considered a pack dog which does what everything else does but usually not as good or its a dog in progress or a cull.
Hunt hard cull hard !
