the dogs we are hunting are about 3/4 running 1/4 treeing I talked to you before a buddy of mine got a pup from the first litter off wendy

cats big and small,,,coons...attempt to run bears,,,,and tree alot of fox...if it climbs we run it...

I have hunted around a lot of running dog/treedog crosses, and have owned a couple purebred julys. I just sold my last dog with running dog blood. He was half july and a real good cat and bear dog at under 2 years old. But I had to have him cut because he wouldn't leave the females alone, you couldn't hunt him with any females. So he wasn't breeding stock. I have been hunting and breeding Mathes Lion Hounds for almost 10 years and they suit me better than anything else I've tried. They have some running dog of undeterminable breed in their background, and it shows in the way they handle a track. I hunt bears, bobcats, and cougars mostly. I always like the little something extra on a track that some running dog blood usually provides. They don't need to tree unless they can force something to climb. Also I have found purebred Julys are more likely to tree than any other running dog breeds I have been around. Just my 2 cents, I don't claim to have seen them all.

i run walkers,gascons,redbones,redbone/beagles,plotts,beagles and fiests.i run the coonhounds/coonhound mixes on deer (durring season) after season we hit the hunt club or the fox pens and tear it up. the beagles are all rabbit dogs( besides one that is a pet) and my mountain fiest is undecided(im trying to get him treeing squirels).but i like hunting with dogs the best.

The 2 I had would run a bobcat as well as fox ! Course the cat didnt do anything but run for its life shortly and run down into a death spryrell likedy splitt ! Fox amely/ they might would pull the hound out of most lesser dogs, that ya got too consifer alot befor ya take the Calhound into your pack .

right now i only got redbones, bluetick x B&T, and a treeing walker x foxhound. my redbones will run foxes, coyotes and deer and so will the bluetick. but the walker x fox hound is strictly for deer he will run a blood trail and that is the main reason i have him.but besides that i hate a walker.

I have running and treeing walker deer dogs.

I hate to tell you guys this but the julys,goodmans,triggs and all the other ones are strains of walkers look it up in the history and you will see.

popcorn they know that but those strains have been bred by themselves so long they dont act or look like the walkers of today. and really they are bred to do differant things than the fox walkers that they came from. Jmo

Right on da money! Generally speakin, the Running Walker of today and the July of today are as different as the Beagle and the Greyhound are. :wink:

I don`t know about today 2008 but in 80`s they was wholeinthe wind speend full fox dogs with papers from Hunters Horn and could make a coon dog fasll out and hit the road and leave a fox or bobcat race/ even a rigg runnen coon race ! Not all of em did, not all of em would do well nor tree up on tree game/ but when ya get your hands on a good fox hound he will do everything and coon dog breed can do on a bobcat,rray fox,mtn lion, lynxx and bear and by GOD look good doen it ! I guess I`m not of your crack smoken aged buddies or peer group and unless they quite hunten fox hounds too combination game hunt because somered fox or cyote hunter had em fall off out of them races and go too treeing up varmite game then yawouldn`t know and thats all I can say/ your limited bud by what ya haventseen and its out ther trust me.

well we are talking about running dogs here chasing fast game so the treeing of game has little to do with this. There are many fox type dogs that can and will tree in all the strains of hounds out there. but when you start talking about the july, walker, goodman and such they are just breed to differant standards and are used on differant game and Ceicel i understud about half of what you were trying to get across to me.

I have a limited experience with the Croagan walkers. How do the July's and Trigg's compare? I am thinking about a dog for bear, lion, bobs, and coyote. One with nose, track speed, grit to catch, and some tree. I like some of the curs, but they are too quite for me, and don't have the stay on track.

What do you run your dogs on?...
