Cat Dog

Post by michigan_bearhunter06 »

I have a 4 1/2 year old walker male who is my main cold trailer for coyote and bear and in his first few years was a hell of a coon dog. Hes very easy to handle in the deep snow when coyote hunting and is very fast and tree's like crazy. I am only 20 years old and hes one of the first hounds ive owned , all of the cat hunting i've done has always been with my unlces walker. weve since had a falling out and i would like to start cat hunting on my own but this hound has never been hunted on cat but to me looks like great potential. i was just wondring if any expierienced cat hunters thinks that this dog is too old to start on cat now or had any suggestions on how to get him going?

If your dog likes to hunt and it sounds like he does. I don't think he is too old to start on cats. Likly it would be best to find someone you know that would allow you to run with his cat dog, once yours is under a cat then try him alone. Barring that your best bet is to get him into an area where you know there are cats and start walking him down some tracks. If he has an interest in cats he will show you. I would say not to expect too much but its definatly worth a try to see if he will. If nothing else it gets you out in the woods with your dog and its hard to beat that!
