Blackwater Plott

I haven't really had much experience with this line and I am wondering if anyone out there has. How's the nose, gritt and brains?

From what I've seen and heard, They're dynamite!
The Mother of the little female I just had pups out of is out of Alan's Blackwater Gritty Gretchen X Blackwater Great North Canook.
She runs to catch, always has and let me tell you, "She's a Tree Dog"!

Look for Blackwater Plotts (Alan Smith) posts on here in the Plott section,
under my post of Pocahontas X Blackwater Pups on the way and send him a PM. I know he'll tell you all you want to know. As will any of the many references he'll be able to furmish you with.

I wouldn't hesitate on getting me one!

Thanks for the response. There is one around here that's ava. I might have to give her a try. My wife seems to think I have a dog addiction problem...maybe she is right!

they are intelligent,natural, gamey go-getters!! I have two males that are half blackwater and half white hollow that I am thinking of offering for stud.

Irv and NMPlotts ~ Thanks for posting and adding your input I appreciate it!

BGH ~ I would consider most of the Plotts I'm producing to be medium to cold nosed. Anything out my my Canook dog will probably have all the nose you could want. I hunted Black & Tans for 18 years and Canooks cold trailing abilities rival the best Black dogs I've owned. One old time Plott breeder says that his offspring are the coldest nosed Plotts he's ever hunted with.The cat hunters really like the dogs Canook is producing. He's throwing awesome bear dogs also but a few of the bear hunters have complained that their young dogs have too much nose!/?
I like gritty dogs and breed for grit. Most but not all of the young dogs I'm producing will sink some ivory in a bear. You asked about brains, what most call brains I prefer to call desire. I breed for dogs with the desire to catch game! I don't know how smart a dog can be to go head to head with a bear that is several times his size.
Most of the dogs I'm producing will be of medium size. Males 50 to 65 lbs. Females 40 to 55lbs. I ocassionaly get a larger male but not very often. The Canook offspring will be 60lbs or less but with a very houndy look. They have longer ears than most Plotts and are set lower on the head. You will not have to look for the brindle on the Plotts from this kennel unless they are Buckskins which I get several of. Also most of my dogs are laid back and easy to handle. Every once in a while I get a hyper one but a low % overall.
