Old dog wrote:that dog is put together awesome dan. but I will add that there is some kemmers that will stay on a running track as well. I have one out of three that will stay hooked in the coastal brush like a running cross. he aint front dog but he aint embarrassing either. last time I went to ore with him he came out of that brush with non hair left on his fore head he ran so hard trying to keep up with them running crosses. my other one will quit if he don't think he can catch it tho. big hole as far as I am concerned. they all do fine as a pack here in Idaho.
I know there are some cuz I had one that would also but the problem is even though she had the heart her body just couldn't take it. She would break down too easy for real hard running. I don't care how much heart a dog has even hounds, if the body cant take it they are gonna quit. Some folks will argue that but that's cuz they never took their dogs to that point and they all have that point.

I have been at it since 1980. The good curs I have had were as hard running on a track as any of my hounds. I have had old strain tan't hounds walkers redbone etc. I have had some curs that did not work out just as in any breed. Tried crossing curs and hounds. That never worked out lost the best in both. I have never owned a big cur of any type. I have a black mouth/kemmer cross right now don't know if he is going to make it. They are a smart good handling dog I will always run a mix works for me. My curs get there fast slow em down, the blue ticks get there and stop em.

There are several folks running leopards on bear in Va. and WV they have been doing a good job and can stay out of trouble. I consider most of them medium nosed. But have seen a few that were cold trailers.

I did some crossin as well and most of em worked out pretty good. Just goes to show ya that the dog world and breeding is a big place and folks can have different results and different experiences. Take care. :beer

Curs not cold nosed enough?

I run BMC hounds and redbone X BMC. I do not run bear. The BMC I run will stay wide open for over 4 hours. Same with my cross and hounds. I don't know if they can hang with my old running walkers. They have spent many days 8 or more hours running a deer. When it comes to BMC in my opinion it's hit or miss. Either the dog is a rock star or a water boy for the junior high marching band,
