We put in for a info request and this what we got back:
1. For the year’s 2013 and 2014 ( to date )were the numbers reported ONLY bear harvested by hunters, if so how many ?
Answer – Bear take information reported in the 2013 bear take report includes only bears taken by hunters. The total reported hunter take in 2013 was 1,064. For 2014, thus far (10-28-14), the hunter bear take is 916.
2. Were any bear that were depredation, traffic fatalities, or any other instance that the result was a bear fatality ( other than a hunter ), added into the end of the year numbers for 2013 and to date for 2014, if so can you please break down how many were from hunters and/or other circumstances?
Answer - Please note as asked, no non-hunting bear fatalities were added to the bear hunter take numbers for both 2013 and 2014.
And as of January 15, 2015, the California black bear harvest is: 1342
