Roy Sparks is over there and I believe he has imported hounds from the US. I can email him if you want and see what he says.

Does anyone know if Roy is a member here?

I just sent Roy an email and linked this thread. Hopefully he will get back with me or chime in himself.

It is expensive for a full sized dog. I know one shipper who said it is cheaper to make the trip and add the dog to your own trip. In fact he said two round trip (people) tickets and the extra baggage (dog) would have been around the same price as shipping the dog alone.

Of course, shipping a weaned pup will be the cheapest way to go. But then you have to hope it makes a good dog.

I know there's been a lot of laikas imported to the USA. I'm thinking it's around $1500 to ship from Russia and surrounding areas. Not sure about Africa. Also knowing what to do before shipping, vet checked and all paper work and all that can be a hassle.

A pup might be a little cheaper. The best thing I think is to import a bred female. Then u get dog and a litter of pups. I can get u contact info to importers I know of if u want.
