Some of these are pretty easy to make at home.

Post by bigcat »

a piece of nylon string with a small treble hook baited with a chicken liver..it will catch the snappers evry time and nobody can see it or steal it...jus use a hook big enough that a leatherback turtle cant swallow.
If it ain't broke-don't go and break it!!

I use 4" hooks baited with beef liver and staked to the bank. Now don't worry none if the livers are rotton, maybe even got some maggots, that's just all the better!

get some masonry line, can't snap it when they bite down, cut it to 15'. Tie it through the eye hole in a 1' stake, drive it in the bank. Don't use a steal leder though, they'll bite right through it.

to kill the turtle just shoot it in the head with a 22. then chop the turtles head off, hang it upside down and let the blood drain for bout 4 hours

to skin it, flip it on it's back, start at one side of the tail, using a flaying knife and cut along the shell till you get to the neck, then stop and cut on other side of neck, along the shell the whole way down to the tail. don't worry bout the under shell, were its attached to the top shell, a good sharp flaying knife will cut right through it as long as you cut along the shell edge but it's best if you use a small flaying knife, it's just easier.
Once that's finished cut what I call the turtle arm pits then just skin it like ya do any animal. Skin the legs and tail, cut all the meat off. If you pop the leg joints out of socket you can remove the meat alot eaiser and faster.

Now remove the under shell by taking a hammer and chisel where you left the neck and tail uncut. Between the neck and shell drive the chisel and between the tail and shell drive the chisel. Now you can remove the under shell.

Now, to get the meat thats in the back, your going to have to remove the little spines. Just use your hammer and chisel at each end of the spines, then use your flaying kinife and cut it out.

There are 11 diff. kinds of meat in a turtle and it's all delicious!

I don't use turtles that are smaller than 10 inch's from one side of shell to the other. Good Luck! :D
